Original Radiator
 

I was planning on using my original radiator in an LS1 swap into a 1963 GMC. I have been told the original radiator will work fine. I have also been told I need an Aluminum Horizontal core radiator.

Any personal experiences I can learn from ? Any thoughts ?

From what I understand you can/should use the original (if it will fit).

I used my original one for years. I did recently swap to an aluminum one. Not a real expencive one but I thought it might be better since I get into traffic during the power tour or CTC.
My original was good but the newer ones seem to flow better and I did get some better cooling. I would just run what you have and watch the temps.

When I did my Jimmy about 10 years ago I had a radiator shop make some changes to my stock AC radiator. He added a steam port and IIRC changed the size(s) of the hose bungs?

Worked perfectly until I sold the Jimmy.

I swapped an LQ4 into my 72 C25 and kept the factory radiator. I have not had any problems here in Colorado.

Unfortunately, I never had the original radiator although I think it would've worked. I ended up going with a 26"x19" crossflow aluminum radiator from Northern and was able to keep the upper and lower hoses on the passenger side. Ran it to CTC back in October with new Vintage Air system and worked great.

Currently looking for a radiator my 64 C10 LS swap. Debating buying a specific swap radiator or the Champion CC284 radiator with fans that has the inlet/outlet in stock positions and sized 1.5/1.75.

Found adapters for hose size on ICT's website but got to add up cost and see how much the fittings and 4 hoses is going to add up to vs buying a specific LS radiator.

Found the CC284 on AZ Pro website offered in LS swap already, its around $550 with fans and shroud. Waiting for them to email me back about the radiator.

That’s exactly what I did. I wasn’t going get rid of my BB 4 core for a non repairable aluminum one when I went LS. It works perfect.

I have an older version of this one. Still going strong 5 years later with zero problems.

Anyone had experience with radiators from this company: http://www.speedcooling.com. I am considering using their 1967 - 1972 Chevy truck radiator. Based on their web site it uses the original 4-row mounts, lifetime warranty, aluminum construction with a heavy duty 2-row core with 1.0" tubes, heavy duty transmission cooler, fully TIG welded construction with no epoxy.
