No dash lights 71 Blazer

Drove my Blazer the other night and had no dash lights. I had recently replaced a front headlight I'm not sure if that effected anything. The fuses that were no good were replaced which fixed the tail lights being out but the dash lights are still out. A friend had said check the headlight switch on the bezel oftentimes there's something shorting back there. Anybody else have any tips I'd appreciate it.

bad switch is common problem. it has a rheostat near the front that burns up or the little slide loosens and the lights wont come on. theres also a fuse located in the upper right corner of the fuse box for pnl lights that may have blown. you can usually verify a bad switch by looking for and smelling for signs of burned parts. you can also verify a bad switch by bridging the red and dark green wires of the connector. first disconnect the neg battery cable. next use a short lenth of wire (12 ga) with male spade connecters on each end to short bridge the red wire and dark green wire of the head light connector (they are right next to each other in the connector) . touch the negitive battery cable to the battery post and the pnl lights should come on full bright if everything else is correct. best to have a buddy in the cab to tell you if the ligths come on or not while touching the battery post with the cable. if the lights dont come on disconnect the battery immediately and trouble shoot.

Yes, crank the headlight switch back and forth. Also make sure the bezel is grounded.

Turn it clockwise and counterclockwise a couple of times.
