Trying to figure out what steering parts I need

1 Attachment(s)
The more I research it the more confused I get. I've got a 68 c10. I'm doing an ls swap and doing power steering. My engine has already has a power steering pump. I've ordered a rebuilt column from a 68 from Kev's Classics. I know I need a steering box, pitman arm and rag joint. What else? Specifically what i'm trying to figure out is what all components are involved in the steering shaft area. Is there an intermediate shaft between the rag joint and the column? What about the shaft between the rag joint and the steering box, is that a seperate part?
I apologize for my confusion, trying to learn as I go.

Thanks,
Phillip

I've not done that exact swap, but you'll need hoses. The LS PS pump most likely has metric fittings and the C10 box has american fittings.

Power steering trucks don't have an intermediate shaft. Just a rag joint at the bottom but the steering box is bigger and longer.

Does it look like these two would fit each other and the pump on my engine?

Both of those should work. That AN line kit is cleaner than the way that I did it. If i recall, you can take the flare fitting out of the back of an old SBC power steering pump and put it in the LS pump so you can use the C10 lines. If you don't have the original pump laying around, the AN line kit is probably easier.

That gearbox also looks right. Personally I have the quick ratio and I wish I had gone standard. Whatever you get, make sure your rag joint is the same 30 spline because there are two different splines depending on the year.

I'm still confused about an intermediate steering shaft or coupler. Is that something I need?

and does the rag joint bolt directly to the gear box input shaft?

I just found a picture of my stock 1970 power steering shaft. I hope this helps.

the rag joint should have a splined end to mate to the spline on the gearbox.

If the metric hose is long enough you can cut the end of use old style flare fitting and re flare to

I am putting an 88 98 pump in my truck i plan on switching the fitting on back off pumps

I got a set of these to run metric lines on a 70's GM gearbox on my 49. They work as well as long as the metric lines will fit your frame.

Re: Trying to figure out what steering parts I need

If it’s a 68 column, it will be the same length as what you have now. It won’t need an intermediate shaft. You can get the rag joint rebuild kit if you need it.
For the steering box;
If you want to have the same hydraulic line style as your LS pump, buy one for a later square body. 82ish should work. Then an off the shelf pressure hose will go on and work fine.
If you want to go with the early style flare fitting box, just change out the pressure output on the LS pump to the early style and buy a pressure hose for that style.
