Engine swap question 454 into my '83

I have an '83 K10 with a 305 that I want to replace. I bought a 454 out of an '82 Blazer. I got some big block heddman headers with it too. I have a manual transmission so i'm pretty sure that my flywheel will bolt right up to the big block(i'll probably replace the flywheel since i'll have it apart). So, I have the headers ready to tie into the existing exhaust system and flywheel shouldn't be a problem. My concerns are with the engine mounts and fuel pump. Will I have any issues here? Will I need to run an electric fuel pump? OR a lower profile manual fuel pump? Will the big block bolt right up where the small block was? Do I need different frame mounts for the engine or anything?

454 engines are externally balanced, I am not sure if 305's are, I don't think so. As a matter of fact I made the exact swap in my 'Cruiser. If you are going to buy a new flywheel, see to it that it is a 454 externally balanced flywheel. And don't cheap out. Along with your new flywheel, it is advisable to pickup a new clutch/PP setup as well. Are you building big power? Hopefully the flywheel you have now with the 305 is a 168 tooth/ 14" one. I never looked into a 154 tooth/12.5 flywheel. If the flywheel you have and the one you get are the same, the 454 will work with all your existing stuff, starter, bellhousing etc. As for your other concerns, I don't know. Like I said I made the same swap in a non Chevrolet frame/vehicle so I am aware of some of the minor driveline details. I had starter issues that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

huh. Well, the 454 is complete but with a flexplate. It has a 168 flexplate on it so I will order an externally balanced flywheel for a 454 and the starter should work. any issues with frame or engine mounts? Fuel pump clearances?

If your 305 has the small flywheel and bellhousing, you will need to change the bellhousing also. Your motor mount crossmember should be fine. The SBC's and BBC's from '73 up used the same motor mounts. As for headers and the fuel pump, I would get ones for a '83 K20 with a 454.
