Roof Rack Mounting

3 Attachment(s)
I would like to build a roof rack for my 86 K5, but I dont want to bolt into the fiberglass top. In the future I will run a soft top and I want to have the option to run the roof rack and soft top together.

I like the idea of this style of "exo-skeleton" rack, but I am not sure how they are making the brackets work between the top an bedsides. Wouldn't raising the top cause the back window and header seal at the cab to have problems?

I guess I could notch the top to go around the brackets. Has anyone seen/built this style of rack? If so, how did you mount it and keep all the hard top seals working?

The guy that made the one in the first pics, I think he had a blog and might have been planning to sell those. I don't know if it went anywhere though. It was a M1009 CUCV blog.

The back window would probably roll up the extra few mm to snug up but you're right about the rest of the fit getting a little wonky. It would be easier to mount to the bedsides.
