tractor tires????
 

I doubt anyone here runs them but I'm building a mud rig out of my 88 k5 parts I have are 12" superlift/14bolt rear and d44 front with 4.56 gear ratio.

My question is what's the tallest recommended tire to run on these axles?? Anyone have any experience or pics ??

that is a hard question to answer. the rear axle will take almost anything you can find to put on it in dot tires.

i would have an issue with any bar type ag tire on the 44. maybe something in the 33" range at max. you will still tear up the axle.

in dot tires if i was planing to run it hard and ruthless, i would go no higher than 35, depending on the tire and width. play smart, i might be ok with 37s. but it depends on how you drive and what terrain you are mudding in, other modifications, etc. 12" lift is more space than you will need if you want to run tires that wont kill your axle.

What if he runs chromoly axles, and such.

I am doing that to my 10 bolt front, but I am running 33 at's

They say 35's are the largest to run on a front 10 bolt with open diff. IMO by the time you buy chromolly shafts etc you could almost get a Dana 60. Reality is anything bigger than 35-37's are hard on the ball joints anyway. Out of curiosity, 12" front springs have you tried to put a front driveshaft in that yet?

I'd suggest saving your pennies and picking yourself up a Dana 60. I run hard in the mud bogs and the 44 has weak knuckles with those ball joints. The strength of the 60 comes from the kingpin design. Right now is the time to buy a 60 the prices are low.

Everyone is right the 44 will not take anything bigger than a 35, if your you are playing hard. As for your 4.56 gears 38's are about as tall as you want to go, anything over that, your loosing to much power for your motor. I say that because I have learned it first hand, I'm running 47's with 4.56 gears and it's way to high, I'm gonna have to drop to 5.38's. A driveshaft is gonna run you about a grand, learned that one too and I'm only running a 8" suspension lift.
