Clutch rod part question

1 Attachment(s)
I had to take off the Z-rod clutch rod thingy out of the other cylindrical thingy and a zerk fell out from the inside. I know that's not supposed to be there, (and I still have the external one mounted on the cylindrical thingy) but what exactly should the inside look like. All that was in mine was alot of grease and a little worn out packing mat'l in the groove portion.

Looks like an L6 Ball Stud Bracket assembly. You could put an O-ring or a felt battery terminal washer in the ball stud groove if you wanted to. I steamed out the old grease from my Z-bar, fitted a new zerx fitting and packed the hell out of it with fresh grease. Valvoline Red, iIrc. The LMC catalog shows a felt washer p/n 30-0695, lock spring p/n 30-3104, nylon seating rings p/n 30-2392 one on each side of the frame side ball stud, and nothing on the engine side ball stud. If you do put an O-ring in the groove, be sure to pack more grease on the engine side of the inboard ballstud. Of course, I wonder how long an O-ring would last and what good it would do in that position, anyway?
[ Not endorsing any particular vendor, but they do have a handy catalog.]
