Insulating Suburban
 

Whats everyone done to insulate there suburbans from sound and heat. I have entire interior our and might as well do something prior to reinstalling

Right, wrong, or indifferent, I sprayed the inside of my Panel Truck with 3M "Body Shutz" undercoating then used 2" pink foam board on the sides and 1" white foam board on the roof interior. I couldn't believe how much it quieted that tin can down....:)

Did you feel like it made a difference? And how many square ft did you use to do entire truck?

Yes, I feel it does. I used 4 or 5 rolls, (50 sqft/roll), but I doubled it on the floor and firewall.

I used 2- 50 sq ft rolls of B-quiet mat on the steel floor and firewall. Then some foil backed bubble wrap on the roof. On the floor in back I have a 3/8" felt carpet pad under the carpet. I may still add some more insulation on the sides one I get some miles on it. I know it helped even with the few miles I have on it. Plus during the installation I discovered a spot on the roof that drummed like thunder with just a light tap of the finger. Replacing the window felts also made a huge improvement. Good stuff! FYI, PRP finally has the 3rd door quarter glass window rubber corrected, :thumbs:.

Did you get the first set? That is good to know I know someone local who is looking for one. Thanks to Richard2717 for giving me a good used one I was able to get my glass installed last year.

I got multiple "first sets" :lol:. But I think PRP has addressed all the issues and they should work quite well now.

If you are going to use side panels you don't need to attach it. The panels will hold it in just fine.

I used Lizard Skin.
One coat of sound insulation and one of heat insulation.
I went from the top of the firewall to the wood floor and the entire roof.
Took 2 gallons of each.

Got my burb painted, put the new wood bed I made in Saturday and on this insulation step now. Putting a dynamat/fatmat type insulation on the steel floor.

Lizard skin is good for roof and sides/doors but expensive, they sell one for heat and noise reduction.

One of the biggest perks of working in the high end restoration business for 10+ years I learned a lot from the actual vendors where they developed their products. For my 74 mini clubman race car I made before the burb I used a latex paint/insuladd combo since all I had in the interior was seats and a rollbar and it helped a ton.

Lizard skin and all the other companies sell you a premixed formula. Look at insuladd.com and see the benefits. Be wary of amazon and eBay they sell a replica version and it doesn't work as well.

Bought the insuladd heat and a gallon of generic paint for a 1/4 the price. Made it extra thick and coated the inside roof, sides, and doors yesterday. Putting in some foil backed styrofoam on the roof and frp panels/trim lock I got from Home Depot.

Thanks for the Insuladd tip. Did you use Azek for the new floor? Your Burban is looking good. Great color choice! :metal::metal:

Used regular pressure treated plywood, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint. None of my local hardware stores carried a single sheet big enough so I bought two and joined together. Wood is joined together with a half lap splice, just used the old one as a template and drilled all the same holes. Went in a lot easier then it was to take it out.

Sorry if I missed it, but who is PRP? I bought a complete set of the new 3 door suburban door seals from GMC-P and the fit is great! But the 3rd door 1/4 glass seal......not so much. Would love to find a set that fit.

I'm about to install the doors as well from gmcpaul. Also have the rear cargo door and window and the super expensive long rear glass gaskets hopefully they all go in smooth.

Once again I hijack this thread. PRP is Precision Rubber Products. They have redone their window seal for the third door fixed windows. HartRod worked with them on the new version and if he is happy then the seal is correct. It sounds like you have the old version. HartRod has pictures of the new ones near the end of his Superburban build thread.
