And the ugly, I'm getting ready to buy some lockouts for a Dana 44 1/2 ton
what's everyone running and what's the best brand to get, I bought some Mile Marker's yrs ago for a 90 Burb and they worker ok no issues. I kinda like the warn lockout's anyone tried them....:chevy: |

best and never look back = yukon . its a best design of old school spicers from both dana 44 style and dana 60 style . they took both sets and used the best parts of both in them to make there design . looks like 322ish on the auction sitE . . . and these also are the shortest stick out depth from the wheel hub .
and if they ever fail they do it LOCKED . . . most others fail OPEN and my opinion of warn hubs these days is over priced crap . no real diffrence from std to prem inside them . and if fail there open = no 4x4 . |

Got the Warn Premiums for the D44 3/4 ton axle I have. 160$ IIRC. FWIW, Ive blown up a few stock Spicers and a Warn Premium on D44s. Every time it was due to getting too aggressive and outside of the limits of the 44. Got lucky every time and didn't break an inner axle. Ive heard hub locks called "hub fuses". Could be the reason for the name. I like the idea of keeping parts that might break accessible (not inside the axle tube) and also carrying an old spare if I know I may need it.
For light wheeling and snow / ice covered roads, the 44 and even stock Spicers are fine. Warn Premiums are a little overkill but they sure top off a newly rebuilt axle nicely. IMO If you're looking for super high quality, unbreakable hub locks - you should probably be buying them for a Dana 60. I do agree that the retaining screws that hold the hub lock onto the hub left a poor impression on me so I replaced them with something that felt a little stronger. Other than that, theyve been solid all summer and Ive been using them quite a bit. We will see how they work this winter. |

Warn Premium hubs are as good as you'll ever need if you aren't out trying to break something. The cost is very reasonable for the quality you get. I have put these on a few trucks with no problems what so ever and never heard a bad rap on them. Never used Milemarker but never heard negative on them. There are also Superwinch hubs and from what I've seen and heard by others, those are also quality parts.

What I'm running: warn standard, they came with the axle. What should you buy? A dana60! Wait, they come with warn standards, it's a vicious cycle! :lol: |

ive ran a few different kind of lock outs on all my square bodies and never had any issues with any of them, warn, superwinch, mile marker and factory. even my current factory ones on my offroad truck hold up great. almost seems like its all amount maintenance especially if its on a offroad truck, take them apart every few months and clean all the water and mud out of them

I agree with the above. Most break when user is trying to engage/disengage gritted up hubs. Also, many put grease in them, which is not what is called for and gets hard if not serviced often. These are outside of the wheel bearings and the only moving part is the actuator/knob. Just needs oil and regular cleaning.
I have a friend with a rolling '77 K30 4spd chassis I hope to scratch the dough up for. |
