1971 GMC Jimmy project. Thought i would start a build thread for it. Been slowly working on it for the last 2 years here and there in between other car builds. I am preping the tub now for final paint. Hoping to have it done this summer. But lets start at the begining. Here is what it looks like when i got it home. What a mess! ha ha
More to come.

Tear down of the body. Ended up selling everything i was not going to use to buy new parts with. Lots of rust in this thing. The dash was all cut up 100 holes drilled in the floors. Rust and more rust. Rocker boxes look solid. Might be the only piece saveable from the floor.

Found a wreaked truck for doner parts. Going to add factory air to the Jimmy.

Over the first year of working on it the pains changed several times. from just putting it together enough to drive and use. To fixing the floors and using it as a camp rig. But after getting into it as normal were do you stop.

The end plan is a full show/daily use rig that can go anywere and trun heads.
Primer is dry so more on it later.

New floor pieces that came in for it.

Not to be nosey, but if you don't mind my asking, what was the total cost of your floor pieces? I'm going to have to do a total floor replacement on one or two.

It was $242.00 plus shipping for all the floor metal. I got it from the truck shop.

Made some braces to support the cowl and front section for floor repair. These doors are junk but were used for fitment and will be repaced with a pair of nice cut down truck doors.

Starting to cut out the floor and rust.

Found a single wall top for it. It is fair shape has some cracks and will need some repair. But it was the best i could find local. The hatch was shot. But found a nice clean rear hatch with all the hardware for $200.00 nice score.

Sand blasted the front cowl windshield section and sprayed it with a cheap epoxy primer so it would not rust for now. And preped the nice A/C dash from my parts truck.

Great work! Looking good. Cant wait to see more.

Re: 71 jimmy build

well done...we should refer to your bracing as the benchmark for future builds. Seems to be placed in the right spots, and still allows access for working on the A, B, and rocker boxes, as well as the floor sections! Keeping the forward seat brace is also another good choice...

I nominate you as are new resident sheet metal guru:smoke:

good luck with your progress, and keep the pics coming

good place to get some inspiration here

thank you for taking the time to post up

Thank you for the comments jaros44sr.

Have not had much time to work on the jimmy the last month. Did get the A/C cut out in the firewall done and the dash part way installed.

All my time has been spent working on a 52 Hudson Hornet lately. This thing is almost done. Then i can get back on the jimmy. Here is a few pictures of the Hornet when i got it and some going together.

Use a rear long bed lower section to patch the mangaled sheetmetal on the tail light area. Got it all welded now just need to do some grinding.

The repo tail gate has terrible lines and does not match the bed sides. Would be ok if it was just a nice driver. But this one is a full show rig so will be using a original gate.

Bought new rocker box Rear Reinforcement Panels from GMC puals. Then finished making new lower B-pillers. Fitted new lower bed patches. Which have a different line then the originals. So more metal work and forming to get them the right shape.

I had some nice 67 original fenders. So was going to use them and shave the markers but after fitting the front end i found a nice 68 GMC front end on crigslist. With near perfect fenders.

Also fitted the top just to make sure everthing was square.
