Broken rear coil spring
2 Attachment(s)
Removed the 5" rear coils on my "new" 68 today and saw this. Can't really say I've seen this before, as they are obviously newer McGaughys units. Doubt they have been on the truck for > 5,000 miles. Looks as if the pigtail at the bottom trailing arm side just snapped off. Must have been barely
Holding on by the mounting cup. I'll try and call McGaughys Monday and see what they say, but has anyone else seen this? |
Re: Broken rear coil spring
For anyone interested, I called McGaughys and justifiably they will warranty anything within a year, but these are much older I assume. Guy told me this is only the second time he has heard of a broken coil, EVER. So bad luck on my end most likely. I'll replace them and be fine, just a bummer since I shouldn't have to.
I also remember reading that the ECE springs are slightly less "light" and thicker than others? What brand does everyone recommend/ are there differences? Thanks! |
Re: Broken rear coil spring
I've been happy with ECE products and their customer service is great. I currently have Hotchkis 6" rear drop springs in my truck.

Re: Broken rear coil spring
I probably had 4 years on my ECE front coils when a sag was noted. Called them, he brought up the invoice, had me measure to verify and new ones were sent out at NO COST. Awesome service and products!!
