looking for thread new or old that shows where you cut frame on swb truck frame to put blazer tub on I know its behind cab and in frount of rear end.Are there differant trailing arms for 2wd blazer/jimmys or does crossmember move to get the lenght right

I`ve never heard of anyone doing this,so prolly no thread. You are taking a coil rear 2wd SWB frame and shortening for 2wd Blazer? The crossmember would be in the same place for any coil rear...long,short,K/5.mostly I see 4wd to 2wd k/5 conversions I guess because it`s easier. If it was me,I`d start with a LWB frame since so many seek SWB frames and even shorten the most abundant LWBs.A truck frame will need the frame cut behind the axle also,as well as modified frame tails for bumper mounting.

I agree with special-k here in MO. lwb frames I believe are plentyful where as swb frames are not, IMO: sell the swb frame and pick up a lwb frame for nearly nothing you"ll have money left over for parts. Good luck

Re: cut truck frame for blazer/jimmy mode?

Almost forgot I have a lwb frame that was made into a trailer, that I believe was cut under the cab that you could have if you picked it up.

Re: cut truck frame for blazer/jimmy mode?

Do you still have the original 4x4 blazer frame?
I would use that with a 73-87 crossmember installed.
Easy change to 5-lug and quick way to get disc brakes.
Also the frame body mounts won't have to be moved.
The only fabbing will be adding the trailing arm crossmember(and trailing arms),... and some upper shock mounts.

Hey Clif, sorry I missed this thread. Making a 2wd blazer frame is the same as making a swb from a lwb frame, just more material taken from under the cab. The trailing arms are all the same. I have an unedited video of this I will try to dig out and post for you but its pretty straight forward.

Could be wrong but as I understood his post, he's trying to shorten a swb 2wd truck frame and use it for his blazer tub.

Re: cut truck frame for blazer/jimmy mode?

To make a 2wd blazer frame from a 2wd swb frame you will need to remove 11 inches from under the cab. The differences in lengths between 2wd swb, lwb, and blazer frames are all between the front cab mounts and the trailing arm crossmember.

heres a pic. of the swb. so as long as you keep frount mounts cut 11'' out and will the other mounts line up or will they all have to be moved.

Re: cut truck frame for blazer/jimmy mode?

This is of course the difference in wheelbase length. The frame for the rear bumper mounting will need to be shortened a little. There likely will be another set of holes for the bumper already in the frame so you will be able to see how much of the rear frame needs to be removed. I know this is the case with lwb frames, maybe swb also.

Still doesn't sound right, aren't the frames completely different between the two?

Isn't the truck frame flatter & the blazer frame is more humped past the cab mounts?

Anybody have some better side shots of the two frames?

These are the only ones I have.

Re: cut truck frame for blazer/jimmy mode?

It probably doesn't sound right to you if you're trying to compare Leaf spring and coil spring frames. They are different.

I've cut down several 2wd coil frames for both swb trucks and 2wd blazers. You will need to use the blazer mounts on the shortened frame to mount the tub. I would not comment or try to mislead if I wasn't sure about the subject.

Not trying to say you would, sorry if you took it that way, only trying to understand here.

I'm reffering strickly to the 'frame shape' between the two, are they exactly the same...in shape, the frames themselves?

The rise in the frames look different in the back, this area hasn't been defined as of yet in this thread, just want it to be clear.

That's the other problem,... he only has the tub itself.
No old frame to rob some mounts off of.

Re: cut truck frame for blazer/jimmy mode?

indeed fab is what im seeing in the future. what it sounds like is blazer frame 2wd or4wd is the best way to go . this swb frame is alot more work to modified than I was thinking or so it seams to me at this point cause VT &lolife are more intelligent than the average guy :uhmk: about blazers and fabman has done this a few times. tell me what you would do. take 4wd frame make it the 2wd or not. I think swb is going to stay that way just wait tell I find a good bed for now maybe:lol:

ClifBlazer 10-26-2009 11:25 PM

Re: cut truck frame for blazer/jimmy mode?
