VIN question

1 Attachment(s)
So I have a 65 Short bed Step, BUTTTTT my Model/VIN is 1C1445Z1XXXXX

I know its a half ton short bed step born in Fremont...... but why is there a 1 in front??

I did look at the Drivers front frame rail to verify as well for the last 8 digits.

I swear I am not idiot but I just can not find the answer. I have looked at multiple decoders and they leave me with no answer.

Help?

Re: VIN question

Does the stamp on the top of the drivers side frame-rail at about the cross-member read the same last seven numbers?
Oh wow after looking at that, looks weird. Two different stamps and the numbers after 1C144 are not in order? Check the frame rail number and report. Please.

Yes the stamp on the front is the same as the last digits on the VIN.

If I knew how to add a photo on the mobile I would. But yes it is a 1965, flat windshield and the front suspension is not torsion.

Could it be a late 64 that was sold as a 65?

Edit: first is the frame.

Re: VIN question

What is on the pink-slip/reg.? shows as a 61 but Freemont (z) was not around (built) then.

Re: VIN question

Registration says 65. It is physically a 65, registered as a 65, but this 1 is throwing stuff off.

And yes I know what the decoders say.

Those rivets on the vin tag look to be pop rivets, recent ones at that....

I thought about that buttttt I have seen others without the rosette style.

Re: VIN question

Looks like the VIN tag was replaced. Rivets are wrong, numbers don't add up.

Edit: first is the frame.

That is what my guess is, some plant was still doing the 60-64VIN, with the 65-66 also in there.

I know on the 67-72 the number on the SPID had the extra 1, wonder if the stamper got confused.

If it matches your title and your state allows those rivets (could have been done by body shop during a repair), your good I guess. Far as I know most all the 60-64 Vins were welded on, not held on with rosette rivets.

You can say that, it's not entirely correct but you can say it.

First off, I appreciate all the responses in regards to my predicament. I did find the build sheet, from behind the seat and the piece for the VIN is intact. Sooooo I'll try and do some more research.

Again, Thank you all for the responses!

Does it show a year and the VIN on the sheet? Can you scan and post for us, maybe we will all learn something.

Just to add to the Rivet mystery , I have pictures of a survivor 1965 K10 Suburban from the Fremont plant = Z , with One Rosette rivet and One Round rivet . It also has the same Font differences in size as the original post here. I believe your tag and possibly even the rivets are original.

i know you said its a 65, but that tag is weird. anything ive seen says that the first digit denotes year. My vin does not have a number before the c and ill bet most others do not either.

Here is my 66 tag. I do remember seeing repro tags on ebay with the model numbers pre stamped. There are blanks that pop up now and then.

Re: VIN question

Are repro tags even legal...

The Rocknrod 12-31-2017 11:38 PM

Re: VIN question

Probably not but I think the discussion is about the guys VIN (is it real etc) not the legality.
Then we will digress into posting laws from various states and making grand statements about what is legal.
Personally I'd like to stay away from that and discuss what is real, repoped, faked or whatever on this guys truck, but that's just me.

Recap:

The build sheet has been..... well mice and age. So I do not have much of it left.

It is from Fremont. It is a 1965 with a 1 in front. It appears to be valid. It is a Coil Spring front end. (61 had Torsion correct?) Which would indicate that since the frame number, build sheet, and VIN all have the same last 8 digits, it is correct(?).

Did they just run out of correct vin plates and said "good nuff"

Last picture is what it looked like when I got it in 06.

I will attempt to find the dealer (highly unluckily but I will give it a shot). And I may try the.... dmv.... I do not want to start the New Year with those people.....

Here is the VIN thread I was talking about earlier.
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=316902
On the vehicle in question - why again can't you show the entire VIN plate?

rideblue00 01-01-2018 09:19 AM

Re: VIN question

That 1 at the beginning is weird.

Do build sheets show the year of the vehicle? like 1965?
