Swap in a '71-87 front axle, it will bolt right up and have discs.

I would have to agree that you'll have less hassles if you swap in an open knuckle differential with discs already on it. However, if you do keep your differential it CAN be done. I am in the proccess of doing mine right now. I already had the differential blasted and powder coated, new knuckle seal kits, all new bearings put in it and THEN found out that my ideas for disc brakes were all wrong. Going they way of swapping the entire diff was an option but I already had too much invested in the closed knuckle. If you use spindles from a 71/72 and have your outer axle shafts turned down to 1.312" (where they fit into the spindle) it will work. If you can swap the entire diff I would recommend it but this is the way to make your current set-up work. Good luck with whichever you choose.
Here is my thread covering the closed knuckle disc brake scenario - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=567022 |
