Project LEFTOVERS!!

I am planning on sending my red '69 C/10 to the paint shop in month or so, and the '67 C-30 dually is on deck for the next project to get paint. I bought this truck from 72Freak to be my beat around truck while my '69 is being painted and my goal is simply to spend as little money as possible on this truck while improving the condition as much as I can with leftover parts. I have 8 parts trucks, and lots of other parts for these trucks so I already have 95% of the stuff I need to make it really decent. For anyone unfamiliar with it, the truck is '69 SWB fleet in excellent mechanical shape and has a great running 250 L6 with a 3OTT. Everything works works except the wipers and I'll have those fixed by the weekend. The truck has a new starter and carb and HOPEFULLY the 6 banger will save a few pennies on fuel!:sumo: It needs rockers and some other rust repair and could use driver's side door. I have better body panels for the ones damaged and I even have a pretty decent SWB fleet bed that I could put on it, but I'm not sure yet if I'm going to leave the body as is for now and do the shop truck thing, or if I'm going to get the body straight and maybe put it in black primer. I have entertained the idea of putting a '68 clip I have on it as well - I'm just not sure of anything yet.
I have another set of 6 lug 8" Rallys with decent tires that will probably end up on it and I definitely plan on adjusting the altitude in a southbound direction. Anyway here's some pics of how it sits right now. I'm going to keep up running list of how much I have in the truck, and see what I come up with. I am into the truck for $1000 to the door as is right now... |
Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!
Good luck with the I6! Once I heard mine run, I was hooked.

Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!
Sixes are an addiction - be warned. Because, as much as I like the 307 in my GMC...it's soooo hard to forget the sound of an open headered 292.
C'mon man...headers and intake on that beasty...;). You know you wanna... haha, but in all seriousness. It should be pretty easy to put together a sweet little truck that is easily enjoyed and a blast to drive. :) -Sam. |
Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!
Ive got headers on my 292!!!! Cant beat the sound!!!

As good as it runs, that slight little valve tick it had was bugging me, so I pulled the valve cover and adjusted the valves today and it purrs a like a kitten. It is so quiet that I almost can't hear it idling in the truck. It was a little crusty inside, but near as bad as lot of engines I've seen. I re-adjusted the carb and replaced the vacuum lines and it is the smoothest running 6 banger I've ever had. Below is a few pics and short clip of the silky smooth wonder! How many 250's this old do you think are out there with smog equipment still on them and seemingly functional? http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...ictures013.jpg |
Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!

Uh oh! There was a little domestic trouble earlier today - It seems the red '69 called the the blue one a few names, then the blue one fired back about being a "real truck" and called the red one a "purdy boy" and I finally had to step in when they started talking about Mama's. I guess I'm going to have park them on opposite sides of the yard!;)
Seriously, the funny thing was I had them parked like this, and my 4 yr old daughter said "Daddy, your trucks look like they're talking to each other!" so I thought it would make a cool photo op! |
Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!
Looks like is gonna be a sweet little project...

Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!
I rode in the beast yesterday and I couldn't believe how good it ran for a 6 banger!

I spent about 15 min. trying to figure out what that noise was and gave up......I would say it was a "make shift" gas gauge but the dash one works doesnt it? |

I lowered the rear of the truck today but for some reason the frontend jumped up. What am I am doing wrong? 12 dually rims and tires and 3 SBC engines will do that!
The real irony is that when my wife got home this evening and saw it, she said "Good Lowered!" - or was it Good Lord?;) |
Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!
Samwise and all the other guys making driving videos inspired me to make a few. The ol 6 banger runs really strong for what it is.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...tures003-1.jpg Just when you thought it was a docile, utilitarian run of the mill 250 inliner, THE BEAST COMES ALIVE!!! :hm::lol: http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...tures004-2.jpg |
Re: Project LEFTOVERS!!
