Wondering about a smaller GMC

I saw this today on the local Craigs List.
http://chambana.craigslist.org/cto/2216331602.html
Ever since I sold my 05 Ram I have missed having "just a gopher truck" around since I don't view my C-30 as a run-around truck unless it is on a "mission to work".

Pondering looking at this little 83 GMC S-10 considering the price may be cheaper than the asking. Just wondering what to be aware of, if anything, other than the normal stuff.

Never had a small truck or entertained one but with gas prices and the price of this one, it might be a decent little truck to have around.

Any opinions? Was thinking of offering $500 for it and see where it goes.

Thanks,
Mark:chevy:

It'll have a 2.8 six in it. Not a power house but will keep up with traffic. Good for a parts hauler.

I had an 84 ex-cab when they first came out. Was a decent little truck that didn't give me any problems. As stated above not a powerhouse.

The 2.8 was not a "good" engine in my opinion. The 4.3's that come in the new s10s are awesome!! If you are considering it then swap it for the 4.3. $500 seems pretty Fair.

I would rather have a manual trans in any of these trucks because they aren't the power houses as stated above, but that's just personal preference, On the 4 cylinder models in the first gens a manual trans is a must though. Do to all the power loss and they are rated under 100 horsepower from the factory. I however wouldn't be afraid of that little 2.8 blowing up since its a reman 12000 is no miles more or less. My brother had an 87 4x4 that my dad should have bought from him for a beater truck and a project truck. It was very reliable.

i disagree with the 2.8 not being a good motor. I have one in a 90 firebird with almost 300k on it.. RAN it out of OIL because of a bad rear main at 259k and it locked up. this is while I was in high school. I walked to town and walked back with 3 quarts of oil. Dumped it in. By then it was cooled off enough to turn over. Cranked up and has been running ever since. Has like 290k and still runs great with 60psi of oil pressure. Been off the road for a few years because car looks like crap but i still crank it every now and then.

Im saying the 4.3L Vortec's are better then the 2.8L's in being a "better" motor. But 3 miles for some oil, I guess i cant say anything cause I would've done the same haha.

But swapping all of the 60* pulleys for the 90* pulleys suck. I would rather grab a roller cam 3.4 from the 94-95 camaro/firebird (60* also) and use all of the stock items in the S10. If I had to swap al of it over to the 90* stuff, might as well get a 305.

If you have to have a 350, then yes, have a 350
