Will 2000 GM wheels fit 67-72 6 lug pattern??

Gentlemen-
Will the more modern...say 2000 6 lug GM truck wheels fit on our 67-72 six lug trucks. I measured mine at a 5.5 pattern. Up to what year will bolt up?? Any that I should stay clear of?? Thanks.

Blacksheep,I beleive this question was asked but if I remember right the center spindle hole is smaller on the later wheels. You might want to check before you drop the $$$ for wheels.

I have a friend who tried to put oem wheels off a 93 onto his 76 4X4, the centers of the wheels were too small to fit over his hubs.

I put a set of 97 rally rims on my 69 C-30 frame. Had to replace all of the studs with 14mm after that they fit perfect.

Just don't try to use any late model Ford wheels, they are metric. Another one of Ford's better Ideas, screw up the system that has been in place for 40 years.

Thank you-
I was looking at a set on e-bay, but sounds as though I better hold off or buy new six lug rims from Jegs. So much for saving a buck, huh?

I tried '98 Tahoe ralleye rims -- perfect fit
just heavy as heck.

Actually the 6 lug wheels off the 1999 and up Chev Silv./GMC Sierra's will not work 67 - 72 6 lug trucks because of the center hole is too small, but w/ a modification of the of hole, then it will fit on to the Hub, but other then just modifying the hole on the wheel itself, the bolt pattern is the Same!! I know, my dad was given an extra set of Wheels off of his neighbors 2000 Silverado, and I tried to put them onto my 68 Chev and my hubs were too large!!

The bolt pattern is 6 on 5 1/2, just like all GM 6 lugs, but any '88 and up truck wheel has 5 1/2" backspacing instead of the 3 1/2" that was used until '87, including the '67 - '72 era. This will move the tires 2 inches farther into the wheel wells. Would not look good, imo.

Can't I get around the larger hub on my 68 and the backspacing issue by installing a 2" wheel spacer? what are your thoughts?

any one know of a way to widen the center holes on newer chevy 6 lug wheels? other than a lathe i mean. like a way we can modify using home power or hand tools?

Re: Will 2000 GM wheels fit 67-72 6 lug pattern??

My opinion?
The backspacing issue is the killer for me.
My thought is, if you have to run an adapter or a spacer for a wheel to work, it's not the right wheel for the vehicle.

Re: Will 2000 GM wheels fit 67-72 6 lug pattern??

The newer trucks..88 and up have a different off set and back spacing..and the diameter of the center is smaller..on a 67-72 the wheels will sit way in the wheel well so it's not worth Maki g the hole bigger for an ugly look..

Re: Will 2000 GM wheels fit 67-72 6 lug pattern??

The wheel offset from new rims to old spindles will allow them to fit with custom spacers, which will also fix the hub bore issue. I had a set made from motorsport-tech.com. I am doing the same thing. They are a bit pricey at $285 though.

Re: Will 2000 GM wheels fit 67-72 6 lug pattern??

I like the looks of the 2000 chevy truck wheel. I am converting to disk brakes on front of my 70 C10 by installation of a later model 'K' member and was thinking like 67blacksheep.

I am adding a conversion rotor to keep 6 lug up front.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket cast wheel that looks like the 2000?

Thanks

67blacksheep I know the wheels you are looking at might be different from these, but to get these to fit we bought 6 lug wheel spacers found here

http://www.ebay.com/itm/6x139-7-to-6...-/181035692411

might not be the right ones for you, just need to measure them. they bolt on to your existing lug nuts then we just bought 2000 Tahoe lug nuts to screw on the center caps

Good, I was considering this, but stupid idea knowing about the backspacing.
