Tire Sizes

I am about to embark on building my 55 2nd series truck, My grandfather bought it new in 1955.
I saw this picture and fell in love with the stance and look. I don't know who owns this truck but does anyone have any ideas on what tire size he is running. The rear is what I really want to know.

Without seeing a rear shot and see how wide they are, it's hard to guess. Could easily be a 31x16.50x15. I have the 17" version of that size Hoosier tire on mine and it looks about the same. Mickey Thompson also makes that size and one size bigger. Needs a 12" to 14" wheel.

Thanks for the info, I want to run radials and the Mickey Thompson sportsman pro tires are bias. I see Hoosier makes a 31x12.5x15 radial. That will be my tire of choice on 10" steel smoothies.

Thanks again.

It almost looks like a 31 or 33" truck tire. I know someone that put some of those on the rear of one and it looked alot like that. Where did you find the picture?

Good choice. I like the radial Hoosier's also. Be aware you might need to relocate the rear springs or go to a four link and mini tubs to get that tire to fit. Lots of builds here that detail both as well as front suspension options. That truck, I'm sure has been clipped. I've never seen one sit that low in the front with stock components.

I plan on getting the TCI rear spring kit, boxing the frame and swaping sides with the mounts and move the springs inboard. Run some mini tubs, or the standard fleetside wheel tubs..
On the front I am going to get a lowered axle, run a spring kit and I hope to get the rack and pinion kit that brothers sell.
