65 GMC Crossmembers
 

This question is about the middle offset crossmember just behind the rearend. I took it out today and I was going to relocate it but its an odd shaped piece. I know I probably need to have one there so can I use a length of 1/4-3/8" angle iron instead or will a piece of 1 1/2" channel work?

Secondary question, I was looking at the rear shock mounts and there are two locations to mount the upper. What effect will it have on my ride quality by moving them to the rear set of holes, closer to the rearend?
