How to clean exterior Evaporator Core

I'm asking...ha!......

Seems water, degreaser, a brush and blow dryer are the ticket, but I thought to ask before I do something I shouldn't. Thanks.

GM has a really great evaporator dip cleaner we used for problem cars that was not only a cleaner but a anti-growth protective coating as well. Try you local dealer for more current information and what it would cost you.

The first thing I do is use compressed air to blow out as much of the crap in between the fins as possible.

What's the best method of cleaning this? Trying to overhaul the A.C system and replace the heater core.

There are lots of coil cleaning products out there. Here is a list from Grainger.

When I see an oily spot, like on the upper right corner of Lugnuts evaporator, I think "leak".

I've never really worked on an a.c. system before. It hasn't been hooked up since before I bought the truck. They even bypassed the heater core. I sure hope it's not a leak. All of your input is greatly appreciated.

It should flushed and pressure tested. I would not install an evaporator without pressure checking. I know some guys do take that risk but these evaps can look brand new from the outside and be corroded from the inside. Never know for sure until it's pressure tested

Also I'd remove the expansion valve to flush and pressure check
