I believe it's a commercial motor for big trucks and whatnot. There's one in our box truck and it has plenty of power/torque. I imagine if you put a few power adder goodies on it and it'd make a nice project motor.

I would hold out for a 427. But if you can pick it up cheap, take the crank and put it in a 454 block to make a 427. Everything else isn't really worth anything but scrap.

But for just a motor, or for pulling probly be fine, just not a race motor.

Exactly what I was about to say.

As I recall they are. However using the crank in a 454 block will get you a nontall 427....thereby increasing your intake choice.

366's have the same stroke as a 427 or 396 at 3.76". 454's have a 4.00" stroke. The tall deck was for another ring on heavy duty applications.

After market intakes such as edelbrock, weiand, and holly can be used on tall deck blocks. A person just has to order intake spacers to get them to bolt up. Other than that any performance up grades you might do to a regular big block can be done on tall blocks.

366-only good for the crank and accessories...rest should be used for a boat anchor

366s are a joke. I used to work at a tree service that had one in a C-60 log truck with a Prentice loader.

Every year, it would either blow a piston or throw the rods out at random. Don't know why they kept putting 366s in it for so long.

Some U-Haul 24' trucks up for sale now have them with TBI. They are 93 to 95 vintage so they probably have the 16197427 PCM running them.

They have an ALLISON AT545 transmission behind them that might be good for a tow rig but it is a four speed auto with no overdrive so it would have to be geared taller to work.

I thought about turning one into a car hauler but don't want to see that ugly pig sitting at my house all the time.
