Pro Performance: '64 Suburban Build

Wanted to start a new build thread for the suburban project I will be taking on. I absolutely loved my '63 and got to put almost 8k miles on it. Unfortunately, due to a growing family, I was on the look out for a suburban. I eventually found one, and that is when I decided to put the '63 up for sale. As much as I would like to keep both, it just wasn't in the cards. The suburban will be great to haul the family in and enjoy car shows without having to drive separately.

Now that the '63 is sold, I am able to start on the new project. I am starting with a '64 suburban that was bought down in Tucson, AZ. I have been always looking for one, and my Dad's friend came across this, and immediately let me know. He reluctantly sold it to me.

My plans with this one will be slightly different than '63. Same basic idea, but want to do something different instead of building the same "truck" again. I am not planning to lay this one on the ground. Not wanting to raise the floor in the back.

Here is what I am starting with:

Travis

Looks like a great start. Maybe just trade Dino for his..ha ha
Looking forward to this. I hear you about the rear floor. I have a lot of time cutting and welding to fit rear seats in the/around a raised floor.

Thanks
Marc

Wow Travis!
I am really excited for you!
I had a 4WD version of this exact color-combo when in High-school!!
I have no-doubts that this will be cool!
cannot wait for the finish-line!!!

Awesome man and appreciate it! We are on here a little, and more so on the individual forums and not so much the vendor portion anymore.

Thanks! It is, and a great foundation with minimal rust. Love them AZ trucks.

Thanks man. I can't wait either, and am going to try and make it a driver by end of August. No paint or interior, but have the frame and all drivetrain done. We'll see. lol

:metal: It will have one of your booster brackets for sure! I ran one on the '63 and loved it. My dad and buddy ended up getting them as well.

Jimmy,
Usually on the burbs we recommend using a 1" higher spring than the drop you want.

Loved what you did with the '63, that I finally got to see in person at LST this year. Looking forward to what you have planned for this one.

A 64-66 suburban is on my to build list...

Thanks guys.

I just located my 6.0 / 4L80E for it. I am contemplating doing a turbo setup on the engine, but not sure if my budget will allow. At the very least, I will put a cam in it.

Re: Pro Performance: '64 Suburban Build

Some parts started to truckle in for the build. I am planning to build the complete chassis first, and get it a roller first.

- Slam Specialties SS7 Bags
- Dead End Garage notch, panhard bar, shock relocaters and exhaust cut outs
- Baer 14" 6-piston front and rear brakes in AZ Copper.

Just found your build thread on the Burb, I'll be paying close attention to this one. We have similar ideas for them, I don't plan on cutting mine up and laying it out either, just a basic bag job and LS drivetrain.

Re: Pro Performance: '64 Suburban Build

My plan was to do a Magnuson on a 5.3 or 6.0, and a 4L80E. Since the project has been on hold for a little due to being busy at work and us moving locations, I haven't been sourcing parts a lot lately. My goal was to gather a lot of the parts so I can make a roller, and be ahead of the game when I get ready to start building.

In this time, I came across a deal I couldn't pass up on a turbo'd 6.0 w/ 4L80E. I am very stoked to be putting this in the suburban. Should make about 600 on mild boost and pump gas, which is plenty for me!
