Rear Air Conditioning - Keep It?
 

I've never had a suburban with working air conditioning let alone rear A/C.

right now my 88 Suburban is in many pieces and it would be a good idea for me to decide what to do with this rear option.

if you guys have it, does it make much of a difference or just a lot of noise?

It definitely helps, especially if you live in hot areas. If you only stay in the "Sunny Seattle" area, then you probably don't need it too often. If you head to eastern WA, it's definitely nice to have.

But it will take some effort getting it running again. Depending on condition, you may have to replace the lines that go back there. If you want the AC to work, both front and back are tied together (if I recall correctly). If you want to eliminate the rear, you'd have to get new front hoses too, without a tee.

In any case, to get the AC working, it will take some money. Any you'll want to convert over from the old R12 system. That refrigerant is hard to get and expensive now.

My opinion. Definitely keep it. Spend the money to make things in your rig work. If you're short on money, make it a long term project of figuring things out and identifying your cheap options. But again, rear AC is nice.

thanks a lot. i have everything, or will have... the rig is going to need different lines anyways up front because i am switching to a 134a dodge compressor that fits with the motor I'm putting in. i will try to update the other parts as needed too.
