Stock or lifted?
I've had a couple of mechanics and other Auto enthusiasts look at my truck and half believe it has a lift kit while the others believe it may be stock. I'm hoping that with the pictures attached someone can give me a definitive answer, I'd like it to be stock with no lift and 31s but if I cannot take lift out I'll go with 33s, thank you.

Lifted...for sure......the factory front springs have a negative arch...in other words they're almost flat or slightly arched upward....also the tall block on the rear axle.....
is a dead giveaway |

Thanks for the quick responses. Now I have to research how to get it back to stock, but I prefer the way the stock
sit lower, easier to get in and out of. |

So I look at a rough country 4 inch lift kit and it seems there's the rear springs blocks and then u bolts as well as shocks, nothing in the way of front spring swap out. I imagine that if I just get new shocks and four new Springs and the bushings and u Bolts Etc I could bring this back to stock. Am I over simplifying this, any tips. Thanks guys.

Maybe put a 2" lift on it and run 33's? That setup gives it a real nice stance.
Do you know if your steering arm is stock or is it an aftermarket raised arm? Are you looking to replace shocks right now as well? |

Not sure if steering arm is original or not. I've been pricing out the parts to bring it back to stock and I might be better off just getting new rims and tires 33's or 35s, it would be cheaper and if I were to sell it most people would want it lifted I would think.

Mine is completely stock; wish it had a slight lift (2-4 inches); would look so much better! Do not be afraid of the lift!

I wonder if I was to drop the lift from 4 in to 2 in if it would require less Parts. Maybe the same Springs with a 2-inch block and different Springs up-front, is there any way to identify who the manufacturer is of the springs, softride, Rough Country or others.

New rims and tires will cost you way more than new front springs and shocks id think...
Rear: you just need to remove the blocks. If you have a 4" lift, and the block is 4"...the springs are fine. Get new ubolts and be done. Front: new springs. could maybe reuse the ubolts since the spring pack in new leaves would be slightly thinner. Then stock height shocks. IF you want to go from 4" to 2" lift I would buy a new complete 2" lift and then sell this 4" lift to recoup costs rather than piecing stuff together. I'd guess the lift will sell fast. |

My '70 had a 4" BDS lift on it with 35x12.50 tires when I bought it......it's more like 6"...it's too high and too bouncy for my liking....I bought a complete Tuff Country 2½" kit that I will be installing at the same time I do the LS1 swap..new springs front and rear with gas charged shocks.... have a front sway bar that will be going on as well....along with 33x12.50 tires...

This is how mine sits with a tuff country 2" lift and the blocks removed in the back...still don't know what lift i had .. front springs were done and the blocks were 3"...tires are 33/10.5/15 bfg km2

I'm buying new tires regardless, it just a question of what size. The rims are steelies that are beat up but could be cleaned up with a little sandpaper and paint. This is going to be a no fuss no muss kind of a truck not a show truck. However I don't want it to be embarrassing sitting in front of the house. When you say new shocks you mean all the way around correct, not just the front. The springs that you see in the picture on the back with the 4-inch lift I could leave on once I remove that block, it wouldn't be stock but close enough ......

isnt that block in back 4"? Usually in 4" lifts the front is a new spring and the back (for cheaper lift options) its a block. My guess is the rear springs are stock unless you have reason to think otherwise.

Ahhh, that's why the lift kits I see only have two springs. I assumed they were the back springs.

Yes - some manufacturers though will let you buy a more expensive version with replacement rear springs. Honestly though with our reverse shackle rear setup the block probably gives a better ride versus a more highly arched spring. Depends what you want out of your K5.

Probably not, i really like the look of the stock original K5's, like a station wagon on steroids. Really appreciate your taking the time to educate me on this subject, knowledge is power, or something like that :)
