How much drop?
Without "bagging", approximately what is the maximum amount of drop that you can get on these trucks without any major negative effects? 5/7 or more than that? Next question, I'd like some opinions on what the best way/kit/etc.. is to achieve this lower ride height. From what I understand, drop spindles (which of course I assume will be a part of the equation) will require converting to disk brakes, which I'm in favor of anyway. I'm about to start my first project. A '69 C10. I'm planning to start with lowering and replacing most of the suspension/steering components while I'm at it, (wear items= bushings/ball joints/tie rod ends,etc...)
Thanks in advance. Zach |
Re: How much drop?
Best advise I can give you is use the search engine on this site. You will learn moore, faster. Get some parts catalogs. Most are free and easier to use than the online duplicates. Plus there are board members here that sell parts. Searching site will give you pics of different drop heights, then you can deccide. I just did a CCP drop kit and am happy with it. There are some good complete kits out there to do a drop, front disc brakes, and then I went with new power booster and master cyl. It's all about how far you want to go and how much money you are willing to spend. Main thing is, keep it fun, cuz=z= that'll keep it going.

Not sure the lowest you can go but I went with a Grand Slam kit from CPP because it was the most complete kit I could find.

Re: How much drop?
I have a 4-6 drop on my truck. 2” spindles, 2” springs up front and 4” springs with 2” drop blocks in the rear. I have NO rear C notch. It is close though. Some people claim 7” drop in the rear without a notch, but personally I wouldn’t go another inch on mine without one.

Re: How much drop?
A 4/6 drop was enough for me. A lot of pics here and in parts catalogs of different drops. Just "search" and you'll find em. Most say anything over a 6 in. rear drop and you must c-notch frame. A couple ways to do that.

some pics may help him with recommendations/tips and which manufacturer.

Re: How much drop?
I did a 4.5 / ~6” drop. However I did not like the ground LCA clearance in the front, so I went with a taller tire.

^ Nice truck Haligan34!!
Without a notch in back I wouldn't want more than 3/5, just to avoid the occasional big bump and bottoming out in the back. 4/6 & 5/7 looks really good on these trucks in my opinion, but after 4" in the front the LCA clearance gets sketchy with a stock crossmember. |

Its a little deceiving in the photo, because it has 4 steel ralley's with tires in the bed so it's about 3/4 to 1/2 of an inch lower than normal. I would like to drop the rear a little more so it sets like the photos, but not without a notch.
