K10 4 inch rough country lift kit

So today I started installing the 4 inch lift I bought for 86. There are 2 different sets of shocks; according to the instructions and part numbers, 2 are for a 6 inch lift and 2 are for a 4 inch lift. My buddy and I both scratched our heads trying to figure it out. The rough country instructions aren't all that informative. Can someone set me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Robbo

Bought for 86 dollars or bought for '86 truck? You got 8 shocks all together? One set for a 4" lift and one set for a 6" lift? I'd use the ones for the 4" lift since that's what you have.

I bought the lift for my 1986 Chevy k10. There are two 4 inch shocks and two 6 inch shocks. I bought the kit with rear blocks, the instructions say that with the installation of the rear blocks, 6 inch shocks are to be used. Also I have a question as to what bushings and sleeves to use in the shocks.

bushings and sleeves should have come with the lift kit... and in all honesty these trucks ride rough no matter what... I'd put the correct 4" shocks in the front since that's where most of the travel is with the weight of the motor... just put the 6" ers' in the back. That's what I'd do.

If you are installing an entire lift kit, i wouldnt worry about the shocks yet. Shocks are the easy part and last to go on. If you are ADDING 2 inch blocks the lift kit then yes, you will need the longer shocks. I agree with the above, 4" front and 6" rear. Did you get the rest of the kit installed?
