Mama dont like it
My youngest son , had to have a "crotch rocket" . I have rode bikes for many yrs (40 yrs now). The kid , came in with a rougted up old bike....that would still make 165-170 top speed. He will listen this old man, & his bud will also....respect what you play....that damn bike will run 170 mph. It is up to this old man, to keep him safe, & I wont skip anything on that bike...longhorn

My buddies son just got one and I asked him how fast he has been on his and he said 130 so far ,I told him he was nuts .I also told him I hoped to see him around a long time ,that is way too fast for me .

Re: Mama dont like it
I had a friend that wanted to get his son a motorcycle I offered him a 883 Sportster I had. Nope he said Nothing over 500cc's. The next week he brought in a Kawasaki 500 Triple for me to tune up and get ready. I laughed and told him the Kawy would walk all over his Superglide even with my Fat Azz on it. After I got it ready I showed him and won a Pizza and a Six Pack! I love my Harley's but those Import Bikes are Street Legal Racing Bikes and really Engineered Well.

Re: Mama dont like it
Let him have his fun on it and hope he learns too treat it responsibly.
I beat the crap out of a rocket for 13 yrs. I respected the bike and it's abilities but afterwards I sorta just outgrew it and wanted too slow down. And sold it before I got hurt or severely broke the bike. i must say it was a freakin blast. Kids are gonna do what kids do. we can only give them advice or a swift boot. I'm sure back when you were just a little crazy longhorn you played with machines that momma said "no way" too also, but you made it. For your sake i hope he treats it responsibly. Most times its the other vehicles on the road that become the problem. Or the influence of the other rocket riders he is riding with. A person with a decent amount of common sense can survive one. |
Re: Mama dont like it
Oh boy yea guys and their addiction to speed I know exactly how that all goes. I have never owned my own rocket but have ridden enough fast enough to scare the **** outta myself. It's not so much each persons riding ability that scares me it's all the other ****ty drivers out on the road not paying attention that will usually do the most amount of harm.

Re: Mama dont like it
i sent my boy to www.stayinsafe.com. do the 2 day course. helped him tremendously (until he went and blew himself up and can't ride now)
my brother went maybe 4 times. i think he must have liked the ride. (or showing off) |
Re: Mama dont like it
I wanted a rocket since Top Gun came out in 1986. My parents told me I could buy any kind of motorcycle I wanted after I moved out of their home. I never did get a bike in all my years.

Re: Mama dont like it
I spent 20 years riding bikes.Dirt and street.
I got the death wobble at 130.No more speed! Later,I got hit in the side by a car.No more street bikes. Now,at 64,I have a bad knee and other worn-out joints that don't work right. Not to mention all the scars and lumps. My bone doctor(Dr,Wiggins) has a picture frame on his wall that says--- "Buy your kid a motorcycle for his last birthday" It's true in many cases! I still have a 81 Honda 500,A big red 3 wheeler and an all-terrain golf cart. I just putt putt around! Mike.:chevy: |

Re: Mama dont like it
I rode those old 'rice rockets"...my bud had 2 ZX11 Ninjas. The one had a muzzy pipe/jetted....it would run 100 mph in 3rd gear, on the bottom edge of the power band. And would have 3 foot of daylight under the front tire! Respect, is the word for that style bike! Enough for me ;) Longhorn

My old Harley will go fast enough to scare the crap out of you. That's fast enough for me.

Re: Mama dont like it
One thing I really like about my Harley.....I can make a bunch of noise, without going fast! You have to know that some of us really loved the loud toys....even as kids! At 110 mph on my sporty, I twisted the grip open....then it was like oh he11, I dont want to know;) Longhorn

Re: Mama dont like it
Had one bike in my days past. Bought a '52 Harley Davidson "K" model. Bought it about the year after I got home from Viet Nam in '70. Guess must have been going for the ''outlaw biker'' look, LOL. Extended front fork, King and Queen seat, peanut tank, Z-bars, no mufflers, just straight drag pipes off the heads. Damn that thing sounded great at an idle or running down the road. No speedometer on it but it would run! Never laid it down but came real close a couple times. Gravel and dirt roads are treacherous. Had it for a couple years, wife pregnant, needed but could not afford a truck. Decisions, finally the bike left and got a '65 Chevy 1/2 ton truck. Now at almost 68 years young, bad back and bad knees, I would need a three wheeler with a recliner on it. Bikes are fun but NOT very for giving. Your fault, their fault, no bodies fault, you go down at speed and it's gonna hurt.
Friend of mine had a Suzuki rice rocket that was just plain STUPID fast ! Said he had it up to 130 one time. Dodged a tire chunk (road gator) topping a hill and NEVER had it that fast again. |
