87' S10 2.8l NO SPARK

Ok i finally found a usefull looking forum... Alright i have atruck that i just dropped a long block in.... week later after i started to drive the baby, she started to stall on me on the freeway... with back fire through my intake and all... so couple min later i was left on the side of the freeway.....

Now i pop the hood discover im getting fuel... see that everything is lookin alright... and then i take off number one then i se that i dont have spark... so there it is.. then i also checked the coil for spark and none... im wondering ... if somthing down the electrical is the problem.. or if its the coil i should just replace...

im hoping someone can give me a nice picture of things that can help me out...

Thanx :flag:

Welcome from Maryland. Check your electronic spark control module code. You can check your codes with a paper clip under the dash but it's been awhile since i've done it. It's pretty easy if you have the code sheet and a tester.

Welcome from Connecticut! My bet is the ignition module, under the dist cap, many parts stores can test it for you if you remove it and bring in in.

first of all its probably a module but dont jump the gun.will the truck start back up and run after it has cooled down some. most times when gm modules start to go bad its because of a short which causes the part to overheat and quit working.it can be a real pain in teh @$$ to diagnose sometimes b/c it will happen intermittantly. but my eduacated guess would be the module

well yeah it was the moduel... and i replaced it .. i still need to reset my time.. but im sure thats what it was...

now... i wanna know why it went bad... because ... i just swapped a remanufactered engine and im wondering if i messed some wiring somewhere... so i guess ima take it in.. and have it looked at... maybe its bad grounding.. but then again... im not sure.. so i figure ill just have it looked at....

now i have a diff prob.. im wondering if somthin electrical can interfer with the moduel.. but i doubt it... im gonna repost a new subject about it.. ill title it Automatic Shifting Colume

dont waste the money getting it checked they go bad b/c of age. just like anything else it just happened that it went bad when the new motor was put in.i doubt it anything u did. they are a common item to fail thats why they are so cheap in the aftermarket

ok thanx im not gonna get it checked.. and yeah i heard it is common im was just wondering if it was somethin i did in bad electrical... but then again... with the wiring ... everything came in snaps... so yeah...

thanx again for everyones help!
