Tow Truck/Rollback/Hauler Pics

There are three tow trucks for sale on Craigslist threads going right now. Then,I was just looking for a picture in my Photobucket account and ran across a whole bunch of tow truck pictures,so I decided to start this thread. It's been done before but time for a new one.Let's see what you have to share. I'll start with blue ...

Who doesn't like tow trucks, right? You have to like them when they're hauling your broke down hunkajunk somewhere better than the side of the road anyway!

Here's mine:

Always love posting pics of "Mad Max". As far as I know this is the only 67 slant back in the country.

So your saying this truck left the factory
Like this? I always assumed the slant backs were owner built.

No, not factory. Shipped from factory to coachbuilder, probably Hodges, we're not sure about this though. My "only one" statement refers to the fact that nobody else on this board has one or knows of one and all the other inquiries I have made have hit deadends.

Hey RenoKeene, Since your slant back is a C20, does it only have 3/4 ton payload?

The guy I bought it from was hauling around a 50 buick roadmaster, about 6000lbs. We believe it was built to haul a dragster but don't have all the history yet.
Check out the spring setup for the HO52....

There was a crew cab conversion '67 GMC car hauler on Ebay back in '03:

They ain't exactly common, though,in any year for that matter.

I know quite a few old time racers and none of them has seen a 67 until they saw mine (my dad included). I only hope mine is the only one left as I intend to fully restore it. Wether it is or isn't, I think it's one of the coolest old trucks I have ever seen.

Always happy to get a chance to show mine off! Here's one picture of it the way it looked straight from the junkyard!

For anyone that is not aware of it, I have a lengthy build thread going here:

Sorry no "after" pics yet but I'm working on it! ;)

If I could find another 67 I would try to buy it....then I would have the only two

I see what your saying, Thats pretty cool how they would build a truck with a 3/4 ton suspension for front and 1 ton rear. It just goes to show you they would build whatever the customer wanted back then. Will you post a pic of your SPID label?

I know, because it's 9 years old. But,it's a '67 GMC car hauler,so there's more than one. There were car haulers built before '67 and after.I'm sure they didn't take a year off. I'm pretty sure Mad Max was built some years after '67 from a C/20. It doesn't have to be rare or factory to be cool. No car haulers were factory. The frames had to be stretched.

Special-k What Size Holmes is that on your rig ? I very nearly bought a 600 for my C-60, but the guy sold the whole truck from under me.... i just love the versatility of the split booms.

Sure, I'll post up the SPID from my computer at work tomorrow. Kinda hard to read but it's pretty cool, "special paint".

Some very sweet trucks here. Keep them comming.

Mine has a Wreckmaster. It's a single boom. Too bad some people don't know how to sell things right. It's hard enough to find what you want, then you lose it because of poor scruples.

F350s as well. That's a real nice truck. I plan on starting threads for other workhorse sanctions later. Keep a look out and post it there.

The truck is in good shape except we need to work on the dump cylinder... it needs seals or something the bed goes up half way and stops as of last week. A friend of my Dad is coming over next week to work on the cylinder and get it back in shape. What wheels are on these trucks pictured? We have the old steel wheel painted white... Some bling would help it out in the looks department!;)

That white truck has chrome Budds, but I don't see them for sale anymore. The red truck has stainless simulators, which are covers either held on by the lugs or snap on and cover the lugs. With your disc brake 9/16s stud truck you can buy any SAE pattern aluminum dually wheels. Those simulators are great for a work truck. They are cheap and don't require major upkeep. Also,no matter how you rotate or change wheel position you always have the shiny side out.
