BARN-FIND 1948 Chevrolet short bed
5 Attachment(s)
FYI- I already know there have been many changes to this pickup. Many mods and changes. IT IS and titled as a 1948. Drivetrain is 1948 and the engine numbers match.
It was a barnfind I just purchased this past week in Kansas and now at its new home in Choctaw, OK. It has been sitting for in a small shed behind an old house for the past 6-7 years, wish I had taken a picture in the shed. Had to air up a couple of tires and pulled it out with my pickup. Loaded and trailered it home. It is in remarkable shape for sitting. Body is very straight, virtually rust free, interior is very decent, and the engine turns freely, but have not tried to start it, yet. Plans are to make it drive, stop, and steer good enough for a driver for now. It has been changed to 12volt. |

Damn what a find, I would have a hard time not leaving it as it is and never doing a thing outside of upkeep. What a cool truck.

I think I saw this one on the local craigslist in all its golden glory, wasnt it advertised as a 52? nice that you have a 48 title, that cleans things up immensely.

You are very correct, I didn't catch that.

Re: BARN-FIND 1948 Chevrolet short bed
I am actually partially wrong. 50 was the last year of turn down style handles. 51 was the first year of solid handles but the tumbler was still separate in the door panel. 52 they moved the tumbler into the handle housing.

Re: BARN-FIND 1948 Chevrolet short bed
Those are 51 doors, pull down handles and vent windows, only year they did that.
The cab has the gas tank inside, which started in 49. |

I'm not completely up on the differences on the years. Who can tell me the year change from the slanted-top bedside to the flat-top bedside. Attached is my last one which was a 1950. Also had a 454 wedged in it. Squirrely quick...

Re: BARN-FIND 1948 Chevrolet short bed
1954 ?
|
Re: BARN-FIND 1948 Chevrolet short bed
1954 started flat top bedsides that also had stampings to match the fender curvature. The bedside stake pockets also changed to a smoother style.
