I would like to blast my frame myself. What PSI compressor can I get away with doing the blasting?

I think it has more to do with cfm's than straight psi. I have a small 25 gallon 3 horse machine with only 5.5 cfm at 90 psi and it struggles to keep up with my blasting cabinet gun. Typically you need in excess of 10 cfm at 90 psi to maintain good pressure. Hope this helps.....

I did mine with a pressure blaster, 2 stage 110v compressor (maybe 30 gallon)... NOT BIG ENOUGH!

It's all about the CFM's as stated... 220v 60 gallon or larger... I needed to maintain a constant 90 pis to blast and mine averaged 45-50ish.... it was like taking a pencil eraser to the frame...

I suggest taking it to an industrial shop in your area to blast, might cost a few hundred but they will do a better job, for nearly the same price and much less mess...

I have been debating on getting a shop to do it or do it myself. I have seen a few post where people say they did it themselves and wouldnt do it again. I may just fork out the cash and have a shop do it for me.

I would never do it again... blasting cabinets are great, big items are a PITA, super messy and still have to buy the media and mess with moisture, psi, cleanup etc...

shop around and avoid the high end places that use garnet or plastic media... good old fashioned sand or coal slag (in my area) works great for the frame, axles, springs etc... Give them a bunch of stuff in bulk and it might bring the per item cost down...

You could check around at equipment rental stores and see if they have the equipment, I work for a rental store and we have a 210 cfm diesel tow-behind compressor and 35 gal blaster with drier. It made short work of doing my frame.....

i have a 30 pound blaster, i used 85 PSI when i do frames or what have you. Works great for me. Just stop and let the compressor rest every 15-20. I have a blasting compressor and it still needs a break alot.

nozzle size makes a big difference in what compressor you can use// i always use sheets of plywood and tarps to control the overspray area and make it easier to collect screen and recycle// for frames i'd always have a bunch of smalls that i'd blast at the sametime then while waiting on recycle time i'd prep and prime and paint the smalls to get the most out of my time// when finished and cleaning up my house is built on a sand dune so i'd just use the wornout sand as bonus landscaping material

Ive heard of people doing it with small compressors and just taking there time. Or like what Restrorob said rent a a big compressor and do it yourself if you have a big project. Im going to do it myself instead of taking it to someone but thats just me.

I had my frame blasted in pieces for $175 in one day. I would do that again without even blinking an eye. shop around and have it done. I am doing a little sandblasting on my tailgate and it is a PITA, I would not even consider doing a frame. like mentioned above I have a cabinet and it works great for small stuff by would not doing anything big. only reason I am doing my tailgate is the contours of it

Started Reading your Money Pit Post a few hours ago. WOW! You got it going on! Can't wait for the final results. I started my dads 70 frame off a month or so ago. I will figure out how to post pics someday.

I ended up finding a local shop that would blast for $125 an hour. I had already hit 75% of the frame with my wire brush so it didnt take them long. Ended up costing me $150 for the frame, rear axel, and all the rear suspension.
