Trucks From A Show

Last weekend I went to the 16th ATHS Tri-State Antique Truck Show in Clearbrook, VA. There was one truck that was my favorite. I spent a long time hanging with the owner, a retired pipeline welder. I have always loved the pipeline welder rigs. Traditionally they had been works of pride and joy, everything I love about trucks, a balance of form and function. Take pride in what you work out of. This one will never see work. A former Oregon fire truck, was bought and had a dump body installed, then this feller got it and built the welder body. 327 powered NAPCO. And that's a '56 Lincoln welder on it! It doesn't get any better than this! (for me)

Gotta love this heavy duty wrecker, too. It is owned by The Keystone Tractor & Truck Museum in Colonial Heights, VA (near Richmond). If you are even on I-95 south of Richmond it is just off the southbound lane along the hiway. Certainly a stop worth making. Full of top shelf trucks and tractors

How about this bus? I'm thinking it wasn't a school bus. Might have been a logging company, maybe a dam construction, or other worker hauler to the worksite. I never talked to the guy. I'm not sure it was originally a NAPCO or if it wasn't converted using later drivetrain (which it has now)

Nice little Stepside

And another heavy duty, a fat cab. Notice GM retained the earlier cab from the Advance Design era

There were only these two Advance Design trucks, I believe. I might have missed one. The green 3800 is superfine. I talked a good bit with the owner over at the NAPCO welder rig. He also has his dad's old '58 3800 wrecker in original Marine Blue he showed pictures of. I plan to go visit him. He's in the same town in VA as a friend of mine and real close to my sister's place. I wish I had pictures. Well, I hope you liked the pictures. Not much going on this year, but at least we had that show go through. If it hadn't rained Friday night I believe there would have been just as many trucks as other years. As it was it came real close. They had a record amount of preregistrations as well as sponsor donations. Come check it out next year if you like the old trucks of all sizes and makes. Not far from Winchester, VA and right along I-81 on US11.

Cool, They held their national meet at the fairgrounds 20 miles from me in 2013. Those guys travel to events and take several trucks from their collections to boot.

My photobucket album for the event and I wouldn't doubt that you saw a couple of trucks that were here at the event you went to. https://app.photobucket.com/u/mr48ch...8-65cd3b048820

I'll have to take all those trucks in. I remember when the show was in your area. We had the national show near me in York, PA in '15, over 1,000 trucks. It will be not real far south of where this annual one is next year in Harrisonburg, VA. The one for this year was cancelled due to the bug. That welder guy came from Louisiana. Might have been the farthest traveler. I was surprised he came that far. This show is held by a combination of local chapters from MD, PA, and VA. It should be called 4-State because it is located minutes from WVA. But WVA doesn't have any chapters in the area. They all belong to the Shenandoah Chapter. PA is the Susquehanna Chapter and MD has two. Mine is Mason-Dixon, so actually some PA guys are in it. The other one is Baltimore-Washington Chapter. It has guys out of Southern, MD as well as the Eastern Shore, some from Delaware. That last truck belongs to the owner of The Stovebolt Page. A bunch of Stovebolt guys show up and all hang together, but for some reason they hang just outside the fence. There were a good half dozen or more Advance Designs as well as a few Task Forces. I even know some of those guys. But I never got around to walking out to where they hang. There's room within the show where they could all group together. I wish they would do that. They did one year and I parked with them. It made for a nice row of classic GM iron, made a row in the middle where it is wide open. Oh well, enough about that

I'm glad you liked them. I wish one was mine. I have over 100 pictures of all the trucks I'll be posting in General Discussion

I'll have to say that if you ever get the chance to go to one of their shows go. You will see rigs that you will never see anywhere else and some of the restored 47/54 GMC Big rigs are worth the trip by them selves.

That's true. This is one of my favorites from the national show at York, PA in '15. The '21 show will be in Harrisonburg, VA. I'll be there!
