so its time for wheels

Re: so its time for wheels
Your suspension plans are a crucial factor in determining what wheels you can run. If you're looking to tuck the tires at all, you probably aren't going to want a 10" wide rim on front. In the back, however, as long as you get the backspacing right you should be able to run a 20x10 no problem.

Re: so its time for wheels
Yeah, 8" to 9" wide is what I would shoot for. I run 9" wide 22s with 6" backspace on my truck. It's a '68, but suspension is nearly identical and clearance issues are very similar to the '73-'87.
To be honest, your truck looks really rad as is! But, it looks like you have 8" wheels on front so I would see how much clearance you have with those and estimate from there what you can fit with larger wheels. That's what I did on mine when I went from the 15x8s to the 22x9s. |

Re: so its time for wheels
I read a build post a few years ago where the guy wanted to run really wide rims/tires.
If I am not mistaken he narrowed his frame 3 inches to gain the nessacary room for the wheels. The dually guys narrow their A arm's the same amount for the same effect. There is some debate of which is better, but longer a arms due contribute to better ride. Shorter arms can contribute to better handling, but at the cost of a slightly rougher ride. As I have never ridden in either I have no firm opinion, but I would likely narrow the frame myself. |
Re: so its time for wheels
so i found these wheels by boyds and i can deal with them but will the fit they are 5x5/5x127 so thats good. there 20x9 and that good, the bad is they dont come in a 20x8.5 just in 20x9 but the back space is 5.0.... will they fit and most importantly can they tuck
|
Re: so its time for wheels
no they will not tuck need a 8.5 wheel to tuck
