71-72 k-10 on 2010 sierra 1500 frame

Hello, new to the forum. Had a question for you all. I currently am in the market for a 69-72 4x4 but want something i can take anywhere comfortably. Our family farm is located near an old junkyard that recently got a 2010 gmc max 4x4 extended cab truck in that had been in a rollover. It has a 6.0 ls motor z71 package and 82k miles. The frame appears to be straight. My question is, if i was able to get the rollover gmc truck at a fair price, would it be worth it to take a 69-72 body and stick it on? Or would the hassle be more than a beginner could handle. I am pretty mechanically savvy and my dad is a very knowledgeable diesel mechanic who might be willing to help a bit. I am very new to classics but have been in the market for a while, just couldn’t find the exact info i needed. Any advice helps. Thank you

-Will

I think you and your dad should do it. I drive a 72 body on a 02 dodge chassis as my daily driver- works well

Lots of Tahoe projects on this board. For a long bed, a Suburban frame could probably work. The Sub wheelbase is 130" or 3" longer than a 67-72 long bed trucks wheelbase and 3" shorter than a square body long beds wheelbase. Zero rates could be used in the rear to adjust wheelbase and mounts could be put on in the appropriate places.

But that truck frame is going to be WAY too long wheelbase wise at 143.5". The 116" Tahoe wheelbase is perfect for a shortbed 67-7 which stock wheelbase is 115".

What engine and transmission are you using? You have me thinking.

If you want to go the dodge route there’s only one acceptable engine in my eyes. Cummins all the way.

Cummins with a automatic- did this in 03 when the Duramax was relatively new- didn’t know if they were good engines

Good point. I am going to do a short bed, so ill have to cut the frame. Or is there really much more to it than that. Simple cut, weld and support plus new driveline should be no biggie.

Will an escalade work for this swap? I have a neighbor with a wrecked one in his yard. Been sitting there awhile.
