70 c-10 Rebuild and redo
 

Thought I would start a thread on redoing my new to me truck and hopefully it will keep me motivated to get it done. I bought this thing back in October and new that it really needed a lot of work but it did have good body parts and minimal rust so that was a great start. It looked like it had been started on several times and never finished so maybe I will be the one t get it back to what it needs to be.

I have always wanted a showroom Cheyenne but the funds are just not here for that at the moment but something about this truck just pulled me in. It was already lowered perfect for what I wanted, had some decent looking wheels and a fairly hot 350 in it with a 350 trans and shift kit which made it a lot of fun to drive. I decided to just co custom driver on this and see where it takes me.

I started with an all new braking system throughout which it needed horribly. Fixed several oil leaks and new tires which made it drive and stop great so now I am getting into the fun stuff.

The interior was painted with horrible over spray on everything, no door panels, dash cut out you name it, just a mess. So we have been focusing on
cleaning that up and doing some under dash painting and such. We pulled out the heater box and repainted it and I am waiting on a gasket kit to reinstall. I also ordered vinyl and built door panels from scratch. The cluster was a mess also and nothing worked so I decided to go with white gauges and only have about half of them installed so far.

The inside is still a mess but it is coming along in my mind. Maybe this will keep me fired up to get this thing ready to cruise.

Looks nice and the rest will come. Grip and groan but enjoy fixing and seeing the end results. Just remember that it will be in better shape and look nicer than when you got it annnnd you did it...ed :chevy:

I've got one of those myself and hope to put it on here soon. It sounds like you're off to a good start and have the motivation to make it into a great looking and driving truck. Keep at and just let the us all know if you have any questions or need something.

Cool truck, shouldn't be too hard staying motivated with that in the garage.
When you do hit a slump just get on here and look at all the beautiful trucks these folks have built.

Well, got a big project almost done today and will finish in the morning. Got my custom console put together, it's been a job and I still have. A lot to do.

Sorry it took so long but once you start one thing you get into a dozen. I took out the dash cluster and completely rewired it and removed the old gauges for the new ones soon to come, I hope.

I decided to try something out of the ordinary and completely vinyled the dash and it looks a lot better in person than in the pic's. I have to order a new dash pad because once I removed it all the metal strapping was shot and coming apart.

I got new heater hoses in the dash, new stereo system with bluetooth and designed the console with a spot for my phone to set below and stream music and all that fancy stuff, actually very cool and works great. I still have a lot to do but thought I would post some pics of what I have so far. I have not even had time to clean it up since it was last night when I got everything tied together.

Next step is an enclosure for behind the seat and additional speakers installed. Carpet, paint and the final touches will be after all this is ready to go.

No pics to add but I finally got the heater core installed and I now have a working heater in the truck. Making progress a little at a time. Almost forgot that I leveled the bed up also. The PO had one back corner 1" lower than the other. From the side you would not notice it but get behind and it looked like crap.

Well today I finally got my rear speaker cabinet covered and hooked up. The interior parts are pretty much good to go but I have to rebuild the cell phone holder. It makes the rest of it not look good.Just need a couple more gauges and the dash pad and I will be ready for some carpet.

Just an update and no pics. I installed my fender emblems and mirrors back on the truck that the PO had removed. I'm kind of stuck at the moment on which way to go with it. The interior needs painting and I am trying to convince myself I can handle it. Just a large project and I sure hate to strip it back down, remove all the windows and so forth. It is to much fun to drive right now and I can't make myself tear it apart. I have decided to hold up on the full paint job and just go with the crappy one it has for a while. I just enjoy using it and driving it.

Do you know what the seats came out of. They are a lot of fun to drive, I've had mine for twenty+ years.

Previous owner said they came out of some type Honda but I have no idea.

Well, I said I was gonna drive and enjoy it for a while and a couple weeks ago it went to running rough and wouldn't you know, water in the oil. As of last night we have disconnected everything from the motor and will pull her out this weekend. While she is down for heart surgery we will start some prep and paint work in the engine bay and go from there. I will post pics as we go to keep it up to date.

I am building an old school 350 with a little kick to it. I have found a set of double hump 202 heads to add to the build. Going back with a 292 cam and roller rockers. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Now I just have to lock down a color for the paint. I'm really leaning toward silver metallic but still open on it. I would love black but just not sure if I could get the body where it would need to be. This is not going to be a million dollar show truck with all the rust redone, just painted and nice to drive and have fun in.

I sure am gonna miss her while she's down.

We got the motor pulled and had to wait a few days before we could get started. Went this morning and dropped all the parts off at the machine shop and picked up all the rebuild parts except for the pistons. We are gonna let the machine shop get the pistons since we are not sure what they will need to do.

Well I got a little more accomplished this last week. I decided to remove the front clip so I could get it painted the way I want it. I want the firewall to be painted to match whatever color the truck will be and I still have not decided for sure on that. I took a couple pics but went ahead and got all the wiring and heater box removed. I plan to go over the wiring and just clean it up, re wrap it and get new wiring channels installed along with new firewall grommets.

Where does the power for the backup lights come from? Three wires out of switch where do they go? thanks

We were supposed to get the block back a couple weeks ago but still have not got it, which gave me some time to work on engine parts. The valve covers and breather I had were very worn but the same set is about 300 bucks so I had an idea. I did some major cleaning on them and some sanding and made me a one off set. They turned out pretty good. The black paint in lay needs some work but they will do fine.

Well, good news, I finally got the call today that the machine shop has everything ready to pick up, so we are headed that way in the morning. Wound up having to bore it 30 over and also had to line bore it for the crank shaft. Now it's time to make some progress I hope. Only took 6 weeks but I should be ready to start building.

Finally starting to put some stuff together on the new engine. Wound up with a new Scat crank, 298 comp cam, aluminum flattop pistons on x rods, 202 186 casting Chevrolet heads angle milled 100/1000's and roller tip rockers. Cant wait to hear it come to life but I have a lot of painting and stuff to do before that day comes.

Well one small hurdle jumped. The engine is pretty much ready to go, just a few extras to add and dress it up a little more. I think it turned out pretty well. I wound up painting the intake and valve covers that were aluminum.

Making a little progress on the body work and sanding. I got the bed unbolted yesterday and plan to sit it off the frame today. The inner fender and radiator support are ready for some color and the cab should not be to far out. I have a little rust in the lower doors I have to determine what to do with and the best way to fix it and also in the lower front fenders.

Just an update for the build file. Sometimes it feels more like regress than progress but I am almost at a turning point. The cab and some parts are almost ready for primer and hopefully in a week or less we will do some spraying. Then some colors can be selected. I have decided to go with new fenders and doors due to some rust in the panels and I am not in a position to fix them. I figure hiring someone to work on them would come out about the same as just buying new parts even though it is not major rust. Since I am doing it all myself it will save time, hopefully.
