'88 --Replacing "Pick up Coil" --Distributor question....
I am asking this for my husband.... on how difficult is it to replace a "pick up coil" on a Suburban (5.7 liter), does the entire DISTRIBUTOR have to be taken out of the engine to replace this simple $10 "pick up coil"...... is it worth the trouble to do this on your own with a Haynes manual --- or should he take this to a garage, how involved is this project, how time consuming? Any advice, please help! Thank You

You have to remove the dist from the motor. Take the cam gear off and remove the dist. shaft from housing, use plenty of p.b.blaster/wd40 to make it eaiser . Then remove the module and little clip holding the coil in place. You can do it but if your shaft wont come out you might have to get another dist. When the shafts get tight on tbi engines it will cause high idleing and loss of power under load. Hope this helps,Erick :D
