Disc brake upgrade catalyst

Well....

This happened last night.

So, I've decided to get the parts I need to get the brakes upgraded, and this front end rebuilt.

The question that I've wanted to know is this:

Will the 73-87 VAN spindles work for this plan, or do I need to stick to truck spindles? Can I use the spindles with my 63-66 ball joints and control arms?

I plan on keeping my manual steering for a bit until I can afford to swap in a power steering system. Can I use my 64 steering linkage with the updated spindles?

Thanks for the help guys

To my knowledge the full size G series van spindles are the same as truck spindles. But I have not used a set yet. You must change the ball joints to fit the spindle being used. The '73-'87 ball joints will fit the '63-'66 control arms. Your stock pitman arm will work, but the tierod ends will not. You will need either the aluminum tierod adapter sleeves or change the entire steering linkage. And of course I would upgrade to the larger diameter '73-'87 lower control arm u-bolts.

Thanks cap. Here's another quick question will the 63 - 66 control arms accept the 73 - 87 control arm bushings and shafts? Are the arms different enough that they won't work or interchange without modification?

So far the route Ill be taking is to use the 73 -87 spindle and calipers, then purchase the outer tie rods to fit the spindles and use an adaptor sleeve from performance online to use my original outer tie rods as inners.

Right now the last question I have is if the lower control arms that I currently have can be retrofitted with the updated control arm bushings.

No, the '73-'87 C10 control arm shafts and bushings will not fit the '63-'72 C10 control arms. You would have to change the entire control arms including the shafts.
