74 K20 Wheel Bearing and Race Diagram
Its been a while since I tore down my front and rear hubs. Was wondering if anyone had a diagram for both the front and the rear that show what bearing and race goes where? I want to say that one of the bearings goes in backwards....
Also, I have heard some people say that you dont pack the bearings and some say that you do. What is your guys thoughts? Thanks |
Re: 74 K20 Wheel Bearing and Race Diagram
You pack the front and not the rear. The rear gets lubed from the gear oil. The front is isolated from the inner axles and is treated the same as a 2wd spindle/bearing/hub. But,you don't use grease in the lock out hub,you just oil it up.
The inner bearings and races are larger that the outside on front for sure. It's self evident how they fit. The taper always goes into the race. |

Bird Doggin:
If you post your email I will send you some GM illustrations of the front and rear hubs. |

Bird Doggin, I completely rebuilt both front and rear hubs. Here is a link to my build thread. I tried to make it as thorough as possible. It all begins on page 5:

By the way, according to the 1973 Chevrolet Assembly Manual, you are supposed to pack the rear bearings.
