After blasting we started on installing a new cab floor.

Thanks to DWSR for documenting this process and answering some questions before we started it. I even bought the tool you recommended it was a huge help.

We cleaned the rust and used rust encapsulator on the hidden areas before the new parts went in.

Wow...another AD style truck in upstate NY..I am on the eastern side of the state about 20 minutes North of Albany NY...

Looks like a cool project....love to see a family working together on something like this....(I work alone on mine...)

Love seeing a younger person working on something besides always fiddling with those cell phones...

looks like you guys will have this done in record time...keep up the awesome work...

Donandal - If all goes to plan it will be done. It would be a fun trip down, I see you are not far away.

Re: Zippys 50'

typical rust for these trucks,

on my 53, the brace for the hinges that sits inside the
lower hinge pocket was badly rusted, and provided no support
for the hinge where it registers on the tab, so I replaced that
also.

your repairs look nice!

The original bed and rear fenders needed a lot of love to get them in shape.
We also want to run wider tires in the rear so we ordered mini tubs.
Purchased a new bed and rear fenders. We had to set it on the frame to see what it looked like.

It Runs!
We mounted up the motor and transmission.
It was very very cool to get it started.
Still way more to do -
This was before we got the shroud and electric fan on it.

Re: Zippys 50'

Congratulations on the first start! The rear inner fenders look really good and I've never seen them before. Where did they come from?

Dwcsr has great knowledge, so I am curious on what tool he suggested that you mentioned in post 26. Figure I can learn something.

Thanks Iplumb.

Ditto to what AD asked..whered the mini tubs come from..those look clean.

Re: Zippys 50'

Thank you guys

The Mini Tubs are from Dan Carpenters. Great info on installing them as well.

The tool Dwcsr recommended is a Steck seem buster part # 20015. I also bought the angled one. Very well worth the price of admission in my book.

Man looks great! everything about it is killer. The thing about that sbc is you know whats in there and how it went together. I bet more care went into that than any create motor.

Thank you Mike! Perfect timing as a friend is replacing a section of floor in his wagon, so I recommended it to him. Haven't seen that tool before.

There is one of the benefits of following builds here...learning from each other.

Thanks again!

Doug - you are very welcome. I agree on the learning from each other. There is no way I could have figured out all this stuff on my own!

Thanks Jeff!

Very cool build.
I know what you mean about the sheetmetal work - I thought I was just ridiculously slow but it seems like everyone's progress slows way down at that point. You just have to trudge on. What ya'll have done so far looks awesome. Glad you got the engine fired! That always provides a lot of motivation to get more stuff done.

Just keep the updates rolling in - seeing other's progress provides inspiration and ideas for everyone.

Thank you II Slow

We installed a three point seat belt set from Julianos.
Also patched up the dash and fit the new ignition switch, wiper switch and light switch.
Turned the cab up on its front and final welded the bottom with it off the dolly.

Next step - re mount it to the frame and complete my 56 item checklist of items to do before the cab goes to paint.

Almost ready to get the cab to the painter...
Re set the cab on the chassis to final fabricate everything pre paint to be in a "no holes after paint" mode.

Jacob and I finished fitting all of the in cab items and controls.
Some final welds and off the painter it goes.

A little rant...
Why is it that nothing ever just fits? We buy (and pay for it) it to fit - but there is always "some assembly required". IE it does NOT just fit - or the instructions are written by someone with a crayon and no practical sense of order or direction. The exception I would say in my experience has been Lokar - they should be the goal other manufacturers shoot for.

End Rant.

Mike
