Question -Difference Between 1/2 & 3/4 Ton Chassis
I am currently looking for a frame for my 1968 4x4 1/2 ton (Chevy) and was wondering if anyone could advise me on the differences between the 3/4 and 1/2 frames. I have found a 1972 3/4 rolling chassis (GMC) but I would like to stick with my 1/2 ton running gear and suspension. Are the frames the same? Will the 1/2 ton running gear and suspension bolt up to a 3/4 frame? If so is it a major fabrication project? Any advice is appreciated.

If it were me, I would spend some time taking a few measurements on the 2 and you should be able to figure it out with out too much effort. Just a thought? Why not use the ¾ running gear. You would have a much stronger foundation for your project. Are there any 4x4 guys out there that can help??? Keep up the good work!! |

I'm moving your thread to the 67-72 forums instead of the projects forum. You will get a lot better response there.

Re: Question -Difference Between 1/2 & 3/4 Ton Chassis
What kind of condition is the 3/4 frame you are looking at ? I have a 1/2 ton rolling frame that I was getting ready to change over to 3/4 ton. It is in really good condition.I am in R.I.,its not exactly across the street but its not that far either. I drove there to see a dead show in 83. My frame is a 69 and I have all new brake drums, pads, wheel cylinders and hardware for all 4 wheels.Maybe a swap would save us both a lot of work?
