1 Piece Driveshaft
Is anyone running a 1 piece driveshaft in their Sub or Panel? If so what donor vehicle did it come out of? I'm thinking of converting mine to see if it gets rid of the vibration problems I'm having.

Re: 1 Piece Driveshaft
I was at one time in my Suburban. Had the local muffler drive line shop make one using my original 2 piece for length but had more vibration than with the 2 PC so went back to original.

I don,t know what your using for running gear , I have a sb with a700r4 and I found a 74 Nova 4 dr . that fit perfect. It had the right size yoke and ujoints .

I have a one piece driveshaft in mine. I had a local shop build it from new parts just gave them the transmission yoke.

Re: 1 Piece Driveshaft
That chances of finding a factory driveshaft other than an original, and having it fit correctly is a gamble. On my '66 Suburban, I just took a driveshaft that was too long to a driveshaft shop and had it shortened to the correct length.

Re: 1 Piece Driveshaft
Thanks for all the advice guys!
If I could find a short bed Chevy truck with a 1 piece shaft, wouldn't that work? They're the same wheel base as the Sub, aren't they? |
Re: 1 Piece Driveshaft
Yes they are the same wheelbase. An original driveshaft will bolt in as long as your engine is in the original location and your trans is an original type trans. Otherwise the driveshaft will have to be shortened or lengthened to be the correct length to allow for enough movement without causing issues. Shortening a driveshaft is not expensive. Apparently most guys seem to think it is. It is when you need to re-tube (lengthen) the driveshaft that it becomes expensive.

Re: 1 Piece Driveshaft
Having your driveshaft shortened by a driveshaft shop that can also balance it is the key. Spend a couple bucks and have it done correctly to eliminate vibrations that cause problems with bearings and seals.

Re: 1 Piece Driveshaft
They are 115", the same as a short wheelbase truck.
