SAS question
 

OK guys,here's my headscratcher. Thinking on some upgrades on a 93 x cab K2500 that we have. Truck has over 260,000 on it and its a diesel. What is the least amount of lift that I can "get away" with. Truck was and will continue to be a hauler. Both in bed and towing. So I'm not looking to have it up in the air. Plans are to try to keep 245's to 285's on it.

Are you gonna put a 60 in it? Biggest problem running a low lift is the pinion hitting the oil pan. I've seen some that were low and didn't have this issues, but maybe I missed something. IMO, gonna look unbelievably goofy (read retarded) with any lift and 245s, even 285s, they are small on a stock truck. Most kits give you 3", but are made for aftermarket springs, 2.5" wide where stock springs are 3" wide. Could make your own, not hard to do. But do a google search for low SAS, bunch of **** comes up.

I would try to do a 60. And I agree that it would look stupid with a lot of lift and small tires. That is better than 50% of why I was seeing about how low I can get away with. Also plans for down the road is to do a cummins swap. The other part of the reason is that I'm gettin old. Dont want to be hoppin up into a truck any more.

If you can weld http://www.fabworxoffroad.com/low-bo...r-dana-60-sac/ that only lifts the truck 3 inches vs the rest are 6 inches or higher.

Sky Manufacturing is the only one that has a 6", and they offer a 3". I used ORU's kit and wasn't bad, but no adjustability and and expensive as hell now. I now have DIY4X's kit, and tho it isn't on yet, already know it's a better designed kit. 4 positions to locate the axle, 100% bolt on, and beefy!!!! Not gonna break, bend or mangle this kit. With the fabworks kit, I don't see any difference where their kit is any different making it lower. The biggest concern is the crossmember. I used 4" springs and had to notch the bottom. Going with minimal lift that crossmember will have to be completely cut out and another one put in place. Not a big deal if you have a plasma or torchs, it can be done with motor in the truck. If I didn't already have 2 sets of 38s for my truck I would try to get a low SAS out of it. I think these trucks look just as good SAS'd with big tires as SAS'd with 33-ish tire.

This is the lowest I've seen without major work. Not bad, but I'm not a fan of skinny tires, only time being winter use. But I can't find how this is different than any other SAS other than stock springs.

I think that truck from 4wheel off road is the one from fabworx off road.

Yes it is. After finding the article, only thing "special" is the "custom de-arched" springs. But if you stock springs, then it would do the same as those springs. Only concern is the spring width. Most if not all SAS brackets are for 2 1/2" springs, stock front springs are 3" wide.

Well after some discussion between me and Boy, we are just going to rebuild the stock frontend. It made it more than 260000 with a 6.5 on top of it without ill effects and we are not planning on beating it offroad so a good Moog rebuild should fit the bill. Even with a hotter than stock Cummins we should be fine.

285s small on a stock truck? More like they only fit a 8-lugger when the torsion bars are turned up and bumper filler removed. Then, it will still rub some and that's with stock width wheels. With 8" wheels the bumper needs trimmed. IMO they look stuffed into those holes, hardly look small.

I think my old K350 would have been perfect with a minimum lift SAS and the truck with SAS would look prefect with the wheels and tires (285/75s & 8") from the K3500. This is what I am after on my '95 K2500 Suburban

I had 285/70/17s on H2s on my old crew cab. Equates to a 285/75/16. Bars where turned up some but not enough to effect ride. Rubbed ever so slightly on the filler piece. Also ran 285s on my old old old ECLB 2500HD with 8" rims, I don't think they rubbed on the filler piece tho.
