Re: Bedrail caps
They have lots of nice stuff. Kind of pricey, though.
|
Re: Bedrail caps
Do the bed rail caps set level with the door height when installed - that would be ideal, but hard to tell from the pic.
|
Re: Bedrail caps
If the bed rail caps are level with the top of the doors, they would have to taper down in the rear, or else a tailgate top cap would be needed as well.
|
Re: Bedrail caps
The bed rails just curve down at the end. They make a slightly weird transition to the back end of the truck, but if your set on going topless it probably will look less awkward than the abrupt drop at the door lol...

There here, just started trimming them. Cut 3/4 off the inside to clear the stock interior. Need to trim the outside to likeing next. more pics to come.

Re: Bedrail caps
That looks like a lot of trimming required to make them work. You will have to re-radius the rear end to make it look decent. It also appears that the bedrail height is above the door height. Not such a smooth look in my opinion. I am assuming that you will be trimming the rails down to be the same height as the doors? Lot of work for a piece that should be a bolt on.

Re: Bedrail caps
I agree, thats lots of work considering how much they cost. Any other companies selling a bed rail cover? I just took the top off for the first time yesterday and it looks kinda ugly there.

The inner panel was installed 3/16 to low. I grown it flat then cut it out. Know I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to salvage this part. way to much work. Thinking of giving them a call

Re: Bedrail caps
I commend you for doing that much extra work to get it to that point. I would have already sent it back.
Was interested in buying a set if they were closer to bolt on and go... Thanks for posting pictures and progress! |

After studying the pictures of the Blazer in the ad and your truck, I noticed something that is attributing to the poor vertical fitment. The arrows on the body lines in the attached picture are lined up in the "model" Blazer, but way off on yours. It looks like you may have some sag/misalignment in your doors. If those points line up, looks like you wouldn't be trimming so much off the bottom.
This however does nothing to account for the wrong length of the pieces. Checked my doors, and they are like the model Blazer. Your doors are definitely misaligned. |
Re: Bedrail caps
I wish someone could machine a set out of Delrin / HDPE... a set that fit of course...

Re: Bedrail caps
Anyone have any experience with the header cap.. I am wondering how strong it is? How does it attach?
I would like to have something to attach a bimini top to and was thinking of making something out of steel.. but if this is strong enough I could wrap and attach the material around the bottom and then attach to the header. I do not want to drill holes for the traditional snap attachments. |
Re: Bedrail caps
Saw the ad in latest Classic Trucks.......I'm interested in the side rail part too

I made a fixture to hold the rail wile I re glassed the bottom. I put blocks of wood were the mounts will be. I'm mounting the rails by 3 bolts from the top. After I trimmed the rail and reworked the end, it starting to look good. Now the other side...

Re: Bedrail caps
Im surprised this thread isn't getting that much attention, I thought this would be a hot topic,,,

Re: Bedrail caps
I just got a set too. Test fit shows I need to do some trimming but not as much as you. One thing that disappoints me is the threaded inserts to install the rails from the bottom aren't in the same location as the holes for the original top. Seems like a no brainer to use the same holes. Guess I'm going to install some new inserts in the rails in the right spots.
