frame boxing

Hi gang,

Is there any issue with recessing the added plate when boxing a frame? I'm considering insetting the plate an inch or so for clearance of brake and fuel lines and wiring. I'm planning to use 3/16" with 2" dimple dies.

Thanks, steve

Wouldn't think so, that's exactly how I would it.

I agree, it also gives you room for a nice fillet weld.

Lot of work boxing in a frame correctly. Keeping it straight and putting in a lot of bolt sleeves.

yeah i've been scratching my head about this as well especially around tying in the suspension points, cross members, and custom motor mounts.

Since I'm adding a flatbed, I was recently told boxing the rear end isn't necessary but I question that. What are your thoughts?

I don't think it is necessary to use 3/16, that adds a lot of weight.

Ok, I could do 1/8th inch and larger dimple dies?

Even 1/8 is overkill. I'd consider 14 ga.

No, I'm starting a late '80's square body 4 door diesel project that will be getting boxed and a 12V.
