Squarebody Front Coilovers

I have an 85 c10 that I am slowly building up as a street strip truck. I really want to do a set of coilover shocks upfront for the adjustibilty. Ridetech makes a conversion kit but is pretty spendy and doesn't include the coilovers. Their kit uses a tee bar set up top and bottom and requires cutting a hole in the top spring pocket and replacing the top bracket that the upper control arm mounts to. My thinking is to buy a set of coilovers that mount with a stud on top then just drill a whole in the spring pocket for the stud to poke out of like they did on chevelles and camaros. Is there any reason this wouldn't work?
