Heatshield for the muffler rattle? My '90 did that to.

If my memory serves me correct there is either weights that can be added to the exhaust or a flex type pipe for whiner's like you that just had to have the 4.3. Just kidding, but there is a fix. I have been cut off from my online GM manuals or I would find the TSB for you. It has to do with the vibration the engine produces as the 6 is not as smooth as the V8. There is a cure.
Still under warranty in time and miles? I do know the GM techs personally and I can ask more questions if needed.

I have a 2002 Silverado with a 4.3.I also had a rattle.I found mine.It was one of the O2 sensors rattling down on the exhaust. If I grabbed it while it was running I could get the noise to stop.It seems like the tip on the O2 sensor came loose or something.I replaced it and the noise stopped.Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem on my 5.3, I found that there is a collar that slips over the o2 senser, with a braided fabric to protect the wires. The collar was rattleing on the o2 sensor, creating a very low noise.
