Bickleton Wa car show

Here are some of the trucks that were at the Bickleton Wa car show Saturday.
Bickleton is an old town up in the Horse Heaven Hills of So Central Wa that was settled in 1979. It's in the middle of thousands of acres of wheat fields.

This AD fuel truck was sitting at what was probably an old fuel distributorship with several other old fuel trucks but I think from the great condition it is normally stored indoors.

The majority of the trucks that were there were great looking trucks or very nicely finished trucks. Not one patina anything at the event except a couple of really junky rat rods. One primered coupe with numbers painted on the side pretending to be a race car. A load of Camaros and Firebirds, some nifty fifty cars and a group of restored Studebakers from a local to there collector's collection and two Kaiser Frazier sedans that were the closest to patina cars of the whole event of over Cars.

It is one of the most laid back events one could go to as the only 50's/60's rock and roll music was being plaid in a GTO Judge and 50 ft from the car you could visit without raising your voice anywhere on the street.
The local folks also had a flea market going on with food, craft items an yard sale stuff for sale. The kid selling ice cold bottles of water for .50 was doing the best business though.

The little TF was really nice.

The Bobber truck had some real nice work in it and was too well done for me to call it rat rod. I'd bet he has some real headlight shake problems though.

Well it's either show lots of photos of the two AD trucks that I took lots of photos of or show photos of mid 70's Camaros.

This little 54 sedan was for sale for months on the local Craigslist at a friendly price and it's actually a nice car. The odd paint design choice killed a lot of chances to sell it even though the colors work great together. Blue hood and decklid and it probably would have sold the first weekend he advertised it.

Last one of the AD.

The kid sitting behind the table in the last photo was selling bottles of Ice water for .50 each as fast as he could pull them out of the cooler. It was close to 100 up there that day.

Here is the link to my photobucket album with most of the vehicles in the show in it. http://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr4...?sort=2&page=1
It was more like a car show in the 70's outside of the two rough rat rods as there were no "patina" cars or trucks in the event and almost all of the rigs had really nice recent paint jobs including a few knock it out of the park ones or very nice older and maybe original paint on some of the antique cars of which there were many. Several of the wheat farmers in that area have an antique car or two that they take to the show and all of the Studebakers belonged to the same guy who has a Studebaker museum up there.

Re: Bickleton Wa car show

I scrolled down the page on Saturday morning to the 2nd of Sept to see if there were any close by events. http://www.cruzinmag.com/calendar.html

A friend of mine went up there last year and had a good time. More 60's and 70's rigs than older rigs this year.
Some outstanding cars if you checked the photobucket album. That little 53 ragtop was outstanding even though I would have made two changes on it. Both unbolt and bolt on and go. Just to keep the focus headed all in one direction. Totally on the line of it were mine I'd change_________ & _________ kind of thing.

The little Citron CV2 was probably the nicest one of those I have ever seen. True I haven't seen one in a while but the guys in the states that had those little buggers back in the 60's used them like a Jeep. If you got stuck you just picked it up and got unstuck. My former student and long time close friend's 71 or 2? Heavy Chevy Big block 4 speed Chevelle is one of the nicest regularly driven Chevelles in the country bar none. There was a Maroon Firebird with Killer paint. In a row of nice super cars that one just rocked. Even the jacked up 4x4 trucks had a lot going for them and were well detailed and well done.

Best part as I said earlier was no freaking loud music blasting out of speakers all over the place that was so loud you couldn't talk or visit with other people. Everyone was relaxed and kicked back and you could snoop the crafts booths and the flea market/yard sale stuff. The store/cafe was doing a landslide business and the Bluebird Inn which is the state's oldest tavern (not continuous operation though) was quietly doing a good business behind my friend's car while I was sitting visiting with him in what looks like the smokers chairs. Last time I was there I was up there pulling a 51 Merc out from behind the shop next door in the middle of the first snow storm of the year and bought the friend who hauled it for me coffee and lunch there. The town is famous for the Bluebirds that come back to nest there every year and the birdhouses the locals make for them and put on fence posts.

Re: Bickleton Wa car show

When I was teaching Auto mechanics in the 80's I used the mechanics shop that was in Bickleton at the time as one of the few places where a mechanic was expected and might have to work on anything and everything. He might have a half million dollar tractor sitting out front needing attention so It could go back to towing a 50 ft wide disk though the wheat fields, a 50's pickup in a stall getting a brake job and a five year old Cadillac getting attention along with what ever else people took in.

As the roads are twisty and rather steep in both directions it is on a very popular motorcycle ride route and the Bluebird inn is a popular lunch with a brew spot for them. In the winter it becomes somewhat of a base camp for hunters and snowmobile folks.
On days of home baseball or basket ball games or track meets you can find the whole town and most of the surrounding farm folks at the game even if they haven't had a family member in school for the past 30 years. Your kids don't get away with much because word of the stunt they pulled beats them home.

It is 40+ miles to the closet Walmart or supermarket though an I am not sure the town has a working gas pump anymore for the public.

Didn't know about the show but I'll try to keep it on the radar for next year.
My high school Ag Shop teacher graduated from school in Bickleton- pretty sure his graduating class had 1 other person. I see the entire district currently has 91 kids from kindergarten through 12th- average of 7 1/2 kids per grade.
Propagate rumors of skies filled with Bluebirds and I could probably convince the boss to take a ride down there.
Thanks for the pics mr48

Nice pics, nice cars. I really love the white Studeaker. Mr. 48, I gather that you don't like the blaring music that is so often played at a show, and I agree with you.

Re: Bickleton Wa car show

I doubt that not many people choose to go to a car show because a certain oldies DJ will be there blasting 60's rock and roll loud enough to break an ear drum if you are within 20 ft of a speaker.

I don't mind bands on a stage over in the corner of the fargrounds where you can go over to listen to them if you choose or walk around and visit without raising your voice in the rest of the venue.
But I may be different than the norm.

And yes that Studebaker is a nice truck. I think it belongs to the guy who has a Studebaker museum up in that area. Place is only open by appointment and usually just to clubs or groups.
