throttle linkage on an original Edelbrock Torker intake
Hey guys, I have been scratching my head for a while on this one. I have an original Edelbrock torker intake (the sideways diagonal mount) with a Holley 4150 style 780 on it. Currently I have the stock cable throttle linkage and kickdown. It still has the cheapy spectre universal throttle cable bracket attached to it.
It looks like I need to make a tab coming off the linkage side rearmost stud of the carb an inch - 1.5 inches, but I cant push the cable back that far. Would I be better off with a lokar cable and starting from scratch? Ill snap a few pics once my camera charges. Any ideas? |
Re: throttle linkage on an original Edelbrock Torker intake
I pulled the spectre bracket off and its pretty strait forward what I need to make to replace it. But in order to get the cable all the way back to zero, I have to force that rubber piece behind where the cable is exposed back too far - it doesnt want to. I have read that the stock cable is barely long enough but it seems like its too long. Understand what im saying?

Re: throttle linkage on an original Edelbrock Torker intake
I had to replace a throttle cable several years ago and the only one the local Chevy dealer could find was for a 6cyl (which may be the same length as a v8). I have a v8 in the original I6 position and the carb is quite a bit closer. I had to make it do a little curl to shorten it enough to work. It lasted a little over 10 years before it started binding again. Pics would be nice since I can't visualize which way the carb twists.
You might get lucky with a stock cable but Lokar would be the best and probably the best quality. I opted for the AZ special. I think it was spectre too. If you go the cheap AZ route, put a small washer between the cable end and plastic clip at the pedal. It will pull through without reinforcement. |
Re: throttle linkage on an original Edelbrock Torker intake
Here are the pics as promised. I had to stop by a Checker for a fuel filter and I noticed they sell a universal throttle cable (Spectre). Has anyone used it? It was $25 I think.

The LOKAR cable is alot different if I recall correctly. It doesn't have that hard plastic coating preventing you from taking the slack out. So I think you would be better off going to summit's site see what they have. Hope this helps you.
