New 1958 Project
Hello all, been following this site for a few months, bought a project 1958 shortbed stepside, and a wrecked 1986 Corvette.
Just about have the frame mocked up, I'll post some pictures when I figure out how! The builds on this site are amazing, a great resource for help so far! |
Re: New 1958 Project
Looking forward to seeing this build. Hurry up with the pics. It's easy to post them, just click the paper clip and the rest is self-explanatory. Good luck with the build.

Well, I got some air lines ran in the shop and the welder wired, got to do some work today!
Figured I better make sure everything stayed level and square during the 2 crappy trailer rides with temporary gusset plates holding things together, all still looks fine. Got some holes welded up and passenger side frame boxed Taking a use it or give it back vacation day tomorrow, hope to have most of frame welding completed. |

Got some welding done on the frame, still some holes left to fill and a ton of grinding to dress the welds, ran out of wire, hope to have it back on the ground tomorrow evening. Big thanks to Kabwe for showing the idea of using 2 engine stands as a frame rotisserie, makes a huge difference for working on the hard to reach spots.

Took time to rework the band saw to slow down the blade speed, blades should last much longer, measured for wheels and tires, tire only is an 18", cardboard template is a 20", going with 20X10's in the rear with 275/35/20, 18X8 in the front with 225/40/18, got the front k member braces welded in, tank mount figured out, was concerned about the tank hanging down, I'm going to raise the bed floor about 5", so I am happier to have the tank not be the lowest part on the rear.

Re: New 1958 Project
I am so Jealous of your Build. This is going to be a sharp truck and handle like a slot car. Where is Long Grove Iowa? Don't be a stranger next time we have a get together you'll need to try and make it so you can meet some of the guy's in Central Iowa. Ray
