brake lines which ones
doing a complete brake system. should i do stainless or steel ... I do like stainless but sounds like a people have issues with the flares leaking....looking for some input on which way to go

Re: brake lines which ones
We use hi-nickel steel. If you use stainless, it should be annealed for flaring.

Re: brake lines which ones
I used ni-copp? tubing from front to rear on my 68 C10. It flares like butter. I bought it in bulk from Oreilly's. I do have a good flaring tool and have used it with good success on stainless but as said above I had to do some rework because I had some leaks.
Also if you do decide on stainless there are little concave washers made out of copper that can be put between the flare and the fitting to help seal the line to the fitting. Sorry I don't have a link. The thing I've found on flaring lines is the line prep before flaring. After cutting deburr the inside of the line. I use a small center drill. The a slight chamfer on the outside the line. Some lube on the flaring tool as you make the flare helps. |
Re: brake lines which ones
I bought a roll on NiCopp off amazon.com and a flare tool. I will be doing custom brake lines as well as fuel lines for the LSx swap.... I also picked up some notchead fasteners to mount the lines.

Re: brake lines which ones
I opted for the Made in USA NiCopp brake line and am extremely happy with the bending/flaring characteristics. I am leary of some the made in China NiCopp lines. $35.09 and free shipping.
